Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Tell the Truth Tuesday

On Tuesdays, Alison at Bonney Lassie encourages bloggers to  share the less than lovely parts of their gardens.   My greenhouse is a delightful place in the summer when I spend lots of time there. Plants need lots more water in the heat of summer and it's so much fun to see what's changing every day when plants are so actively growing.  In the winter, I usually only visit the greenhouse on weekend days.   As winter is a time full of activities that pull me away from the garden, things get thrown on any available surface in the greenhouse and elsewhere until I have time to put them away.  Right now, the area originally conceived as a potting bench is so full of odds and ends that potting there would be a challenge.  Unfortunately alternate possible work surfaces are also covered with stuff.

I'll get out there and tidy up one of these days.
Not everything is horrible out there though. Sclumbergera x buckleyi (Christmas Cactus) is always the last to bloom.  The others bloom at Thanksgiving in the house but out in the greenhouse they bloom at Christmas and this one starts blooming in the new year.

Waiting to go back outside in just a few more months.

  1. Someday you're going to go out there to discover the Tillandsia usneoides has completely taken over, not that that would be a bad thing.

    1. As it gets a bit bottom heavy it falls and I have to re hang it. If the mild temperatures continue through the winter, the stuff hanging outside might just make it through alive. Crazy.

  2. Pahleeze! The truth is that your greenhouse doesn't have a bad angle; it's a delightful place no matter how full it is.

  3. Ah! I've missed my own meme again. That's what happens when your head is a fuzzy, muzzy bag of snot. Your greenhouse looks wonderful! With just a tiny bit of tidying you could use that space on the potting bench. I have a feeling it mostly serves a purpose as a space for contemplation anyway.

    1. I do more potting in the spring and summer so it's no big deal but It'll get tidied up one of these days when I need the space.

  4. The mere fact of having a greenhouse is enough for me — especially if there is room enough to walk inside.

  5. Even crowded, your greenhouse looks like a little bit of wonderland to me, Peter. I still think you should charge admission - maybe that would cover the cost of a part-time assistant to tidy up.

    1. Tidied up would be better but I am grateful to have such a space.
