Well, perhaps not a tropical heat wave but 55 sunny degrees in January seems quite balmy.
Although there are delightfully fragrant blooms outside, instead of bringing the outside in this week, I gathered some things from inside to make a vase.
This large shell is a recent thrift store find and seemed an appropriate container for a bit of warmth.
I was never a big fan of orchids. The flowers are nice but the foliage is just okay. However, last spring, I received one as a gift and the blooms lasted from May to November and the plant has now started to grow. This one followed me home from a house plant sale and seemed perfect for the shell.
It's joined by a couple of tillandsias that live on the kitchen windowsill.
A bit of the tropics in January is never a bad thing, right?
In a Vase on Monday is hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden. Do stop by her blog to see more Monday vases.
I do like orchids but trying to keep them going in winter in my hot and sunny house never seems to work. Your container is one of the best arrangements with an orchid I've seen. I think because it is the centerpiece and the colors are so subtle and nicely complement the shell. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteOh ya! I love that. It's been sunny here but the darn east wind is cutting right through any illusion of warmth.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing. I've never been a fan of Orchids either but when I persuaded one to flower for the second time, I was inordinately pleased. The plant died after that.
ReplyDeletePerfect! I did wonder if you'd taken yourself off to warmer climes when I saw the title of your post. Fifty-five degrees is NOT balmy - but I'm glad you got a bit of a break from your usual arctic blast.
ReplyDeletePeter, that is perfectly put together and so pretty - thanks for sharing it
ReplyDeleteLove Marilyn Monroe, she is one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteI saw Mary Poppins yesterday and I'll borrow her famous saying to describe your IAVOM today:"practically perfect in every way".
That is a wonderful composition.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful arrangement. It certainly looks like a tropical heat wave.
ReplyDeleteVery cool arrangement, and well photographed, too.
ReplyDeleteIt was 55F here yesterday, coldest day in years! Quite refreshing, actually.
I love this arrangement in the shell. I have a couple of big conch shells that I bought last year planning to use them as planting containers for succulents that look like sea creatures climbing out.
ReplyDeleteOh that's most stylish and elegant Peter. My mum had window sills of orchids that she kept going for years but sadly I've not had much joy with them.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderfully creative, Peter, it looks great!
