Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette

At Wells Medina Nursery on Saturday, a young man on the staff noticed that I was taking pictures and he said that he thought I'd be interested in seeing something.

No matter how many times I see this, it'll never stop thrilling me and making me worry about mom and her chicks. Who sets up house in a black plastic nursery pot with so many people walking around?  On the other hand, they'll be safe here from cats and other daytime predators.  Maybe mom is smarter than we think.

"The sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young."   Psalm 84

Wednesday Vignette is hosted by Anna at Flutter and Hum.  Click here to join the party.

  4. What a great find. I wonder if anyone will purchase the plant. Maybe an up-charge since it comes with pets?

  5. Wonderful! And it's kind of the bird to provide you with a photo opportunity too.
