There are many outstanding vendors at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show and one of my perennial favorites is Artist & Potter Cindy Jenkins. Just about everything she creates appeals to me and fortunately her prices are quite reasonable. Cindy's introduced some new abstract work with which I was smitten. These three came home from the show with me this year.
A single branch of Stachyurus praecox fills the tiny opening of the tall vase while Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' (rooted and still growing in water from an September Monday vase) hellebores and snowdrops fill the squat pot.
The tall pot and that branch were made for each other. Two lovely abstractions.
ReplyDeleteOh wow I love these and would feel lucky to purchase them....perfect plant material and blooms for these vases!
ReplyDeleteSo that's what was in that already packed paper bag when I encountered you at the show, still lingering at that pottery booth. Cool choices!
ReplyDeleteNot what I would have immediately identified as "Peter style" but of course you've made them yours with the flower and foliage additions.
ReplyDeleteSo glad we got to spend a little time together last week!
These works by Cindy Jenkins are wonderful Peter and your simple vase is perfect as it does not detract from that all but draws the eye in. Lovely, thank you!
ReplyDeleteI've admired her work in previous years, but this was the first time I've actually bought anything. Those abstract vases are very pretty, and you've added some nice touches to them with the arrangements you've filled them with. They not only go with, but they hearken back to the show as well!
ReplyDeleteVery cool collection, and indeed it only needs a minimal floral additions.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know that you didn't come away from the show empty-handed! You found just the right contents for both vases too.
ReplyDeleteYour new collection is very striking and it will be an interesting challenge to make arrangements to show them off.
ReplyDeleteHellebores and snowdrops, what a lovely combination. Glad you found some more vases to add to your collection. Vases have stopped being a luxury for me, and more of a necessity! LOL!
ReplyDeleteSweet! Well done with the simplicity of the flowers/foliage you've put with the composition as well. Perfect complement.
ReplyDeleteLove those new pieces, but it feels like the squat one should be full of coffee, and the tall one something like a crazy flavored sake. Maybe I've had a long day?
ReplyDeleteArt and functionality, the best of both worlds, immediately put to good use!
ReplyDeleteOh, I can see why you're smitten with Cindy's art. Lucky you--those pieces are awesome! And your creativity with them is top-notch, too. How wonderfully vibrant and pleasant!
ReplyDeleteYou’ve made it your own and makes for a pretty vignette!
ReplyDeleteThis artist reminds me of the work of an artist friend of mine, Joss Rossiter. I love the color and the abstract work. Love all of these pieces. The tall vase looks great with it's single stick. The pot is sweet too and the black grass shows off the blooms and shows off the black in the pottery. Like the pieces have come alive. Happy IAVOM.
ReplyDeletePeter, your new ceramic pieces are amazing--you chose well! The hellebore is lovely. At first I thought it was daffodil. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love your new ceramics and how wonderful it looks with the flowers. And you picked a spray of your stachyurus, mine is not out yet but I couldn't bring myself to cut it. Do you have a big bush? And what a good idea using the black grass with your white flowers. I love it.
ReplyDeletePeter and the Potter: a collaboration of two artists with splendid results.
