Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette

Wednesday Vignette is hosted by Anna of Flutter and Hum. Click on over there to join in the fun.

During the summer, Hosta 'Sum and Substance' covers this Buddha.  It's one of several  faces in my garden that only appear only at certain times of the year.  Like passing by clumps of sleeping snowdrops in August, walking by one of these hidden objects makes me smile just knowing that they're there.  Today, I go back to work and will only see the garden in the light on weekends again but just knowing that it's there getting ready for spring will lighten my step as I leave.

  1. Of course I couldn't have guessed it was there when I toured your garden last year. It's a beauty.

  2. And in case anyone needed proof of just how big Hosta 'Sum and Substance' can get, that head looks hefty!

  3. The days are starting to get longer now too! Not noticeable quite yet (only 7 minutes longer than at the solstice), but soon it will be.

  4. What a great idea! How a glimpse of Buddha reveals itself just when you need it the most - just love it!

  5. It looks like a wonderful place for Buddha to hang out, reappearing during the dark days of winter when you most need him.

  6. Buddha's hair is messy, but the smile says "I don't care".
Best wishes to you as you return to the classroom.

  7. That's one of the wonderful things about gardening: The garden is always changing. What a wonderful way to appreciate the winter.

  8. Ah, Sum and Substance sounds like a description of Buddha himself. I love the image of that huge Hosta enveloping him.
