Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette - Too Wet To Tour

Wednesday Vignette is hosted each week by Anna at Flutter and Hum.  Click over there, you know you want to!

After the March Mania Sale at the Bellevue Botanical Garden,  I wander around the garden snapping pictures.  However, this year the rain was pouring down, I'd no umbrella, and the camera doesn't really love to get wet.  This year, only a couple of shots got taken from the shelter of the visitors center.

Why is it that my garden doesn't look this fabulous in the winter?   Oh, that's right, I have no discipline when it comes to plants. Also, the firm I've hired to work in my garden , Me, Myself, and I always send over a lazy, grumpy, argumentative crew that complains so much  about the rain, wind, and cold that I just let them sit inside and read instead.  Fortunately, their rates are quite reasonable. So hard to get good help these days.

One bit of good news about the excessive rain could be found on the restroom wall.

  1. I love the concept of a rain garden and I've seen a number of them in West Seattle. Did you find the rain garden in the Botanical Garden? It looks like there is one in the first picture...

    1. With the deluge, the whole BBG was a rain garden.

  2. To get the winter landscape of your dreams, Peter, all you need is another 5 acres or so to spread your plants around in.

  3. I use that same landscape crew. It's sunny out but they keep saying it's too cold. It's almost 30 degrees, c'mon!

    1. Not a very motivated firm this time of year! Oh well, the price is right.

  4. My staff grumbles during nasty weather, too. They're a cheerful lot, though, on warm, sunny days. I'm sure your winter landscape looks pretty fabulous, though.

    1. When they show up here, they don't seem all that cheerful, grumble about every little thing and take more breaks than anything else.

  5. We have been dodging showers and working in the yard this week. It just doesn't look all that pretty here yet either. We need some warmth to wake everything up.

  6. Once again, you made me laugh, Peter! As a matter of fact, I have dealt with that firm myself, and am not happy with their performance. Way too distractible, and never seems to get anything done... :)

    1. I wish they could be a little more motivated and focused but they just keep ambling around, picking up garbage and muttering under their breath about the rain and wind.

  7. My staff spends a small fortune on Ibuprofen. And they insist on a coffee break every day at 4. The weather this week has been nicer, less rain, a tiny bit of sunshine, and warmer temps at least. I got quite a lot of weeds pulled.
