Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

The Bonney Lassie and The Outlaw - Together Again at Sky Nursery

After Alison and I looked at all the cool plants at the Odd Plant Show and Sale, we had to check out Sky Nursery's big fall sale!

Here's Alison considering a Grevillea victoriae.  The answer is yes.  Sky really has a fabulous selection of plants.  Maybe it's a good thing that the nursery isn't closer.

The space is huge and allows for the many plants to be displayed well.

 That's one big centipede!

Sigh, Rhodocoma capensis always tug at my heart, especially when they look as handsome as these and on sale for 40% off.  However, I already have a couple,

Fun teardrop (or is that PNW sized raindrop)  shaped rusty metal whatchamacallits.

I think I ended up putting away more than I bought as I'd already spent more than I'd planned at the Odd Plant Sale.  (I'll never miss that again!)

Alison, on the other hand...well, a gentleman never squeals on his friends.  This isn't her truckload but it was really swell to know that others were taking advantage of the savings!

So tempting!

Um, Mr. Echeveria, perhaps you should see a doctor about your wart problem.

Cacti and succulents are always a presence.  This is where I found my, not so little anymore, Agave 'Joe Hoak'

Where's the meat?  Carnivorous plants on wheels.  Watch out, they look hungry and may be driving to your neighborhood!

Ligularia  tussilaginea 'Shishi Botan' is also called Farfugium japonicum 'Shishi Botan' jumped into my cart but came back out again as, you guessed it, I already have one.  It's a beautiful thing though.

In the indoor area, I avoided looking at spring flowering bulbs as Sky has an amazing selection and the temptation would be great.  I'll leave you with this thought.

Happy fall planting!

  1. I'm so glad I bought that Grevillea! In fact, I'm beginning to think I should have bought two. Why do I never see cool plants like Grevillea or Manzanita (other than A. uva-ursi) at the nurseries down here?

  2. The grass is always greener, Alison.

I had to look the other way this morning when I went to buy potting soil. An employee was putting out pots of something blue....

  3. Sky is a fabulous nursery but the real joy of this post is to see Alison and Peter are out again, plant shopping together. So everything you put in your cart had to go back because you already have two at home? That is hilarious. Truthfully, I run into a similar problem. I may just go for that centipede this weekend.

  4. What a huge space. You are all dwarfed by it. I'm impressed that you were able to resist temptation to any degrees as it is always a hard thing to do.

  5. That Echeveria with the "wart problem" is called 'Raindrops' - perfect for the PNW! I have one but it's here just to remind me that there are places where water falls from the sky at periodic intervals.

  6. I love your reviews of your local nurseries. It really makes me want to go shopping. OK, twist my arm. I like those teardrop-shaped planters!

  7. Wow, I might not have been able to resist that Rhodocoma capensis at 40% off, especially since I do not have one...
