Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

In a dumpster in back.

I wonder if this aloe will be left out back with all the acers?

  1. It's painful to see all the gourds tossed in the dumpster.

  2. I'm with chavliness, all those beautiful gourds! Those pumpkins must not be good eating. That's a lot of free pies, otherwise.

  3. YES! What Loree said! That, and rescue some of those good looking gourds for your Thanksgiving decorations. Pumpkins, like with all those leftover Christmas trees - I always feel bad about such a waste... :( I don't think our agricultural businesses have quite adjusted to the current realities of shrinking living space, and no paid time off to enjoy our holidays. When I see fields and fields of trees and pumpkins, I always get a feeling of "wishful thinking" on their part.

  4. Release the squirrels! They'll get a party going with that bounty of pumpkins.

  5. I guess it's a good time to stock up for Thanksgiving decor. I hope they end up getting composted.

  6. Food waste - too bad they can't be used for animal feed or composted. I expect trucking that weight makes it cost prohibitive.

  7. I see this in our area too. Sad really. What does one do about it? I am sure if the farmer wasn't making money he/she wouldn't do it. So I choose not to worry about such things.

  8. From Linda at Each Little World: Don’t think I’ve ever seen this but probably because I am a city girl. Love yesterday’s autumn progress.

  9. Kind of how I feel this post election day. The party's over. Are we headed for the dumpster? Which rhymes with Trumpster?

  10. Where I was in Canada, all the pumpkins were going to the railway station, after October 31st,to be taken to the zoo for the animals.

  12. That's amazing. I would absolutely fill a car with free pumpkins and take them all home for no purpose whatsoever. Maybe I'd roast the seeds from one or two, but just to have so many pumpkins would be a great thing.
Actually based on the rate at which my much more meager home-grown pumpkins are being destroyed by the squirrels, even a carload of pumpkins would go fast here.
