Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

In a Vase on Monday - Autumn on One's Mind.

To make way for paving equipment on our street, several large branches of an older Liquidambar (Sweet Gum) tree had to be cut.  They were left lying in a parking strip nearby and since the foliage was looking especially nice, a few small twigs came home with me for this week's vase.

Joining the leaves in the top of this human form vase are some magnolia macrophylla cones.  Unfortunately, the bright pink seeds were all gone by the time I found them on the ground.

In a Vase on Monday is hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden.  Click over to her blog to see her first Monday vase in this sixth year of her meme and to find links to those of other participating bloggers.

  1. Such a fun vase and the liquidamber makes an impressive headdress. You did right to rescue it and bring it home - the leaves are stunning.

  11. Now that's fall color! A neighbor has a few liquidambers but they never develop that depth of color.
