Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Willow Tree Gardens and Interiors Celebrates Autumn

On Saturday, we set out on a local nursery and pumpkin patch adventure.  Willow Tree  is always packed with great plants and interior decor and since it's so close to home, we started the day there.

Yucca 'Color Guard' blushing pink.  Mine never do this, possibly because they need more sun.

Time to plant pansies and kale for winter interest.

I feel grateful to live in a climate where there are so many evergreen and winter blooming plants yet there is a feeling of melancholy at seeing these appear.

Ledebouria cooperi

Heuchera ‘Red Lightning’ is a favorite as it keeps these amazing colors year round.

Gaulnettya 'Wisley Pearl' is a sweet thing that I've killed twice.

There's still a bit of summer hanging in there.

This Agave with no tag was a serious temptation.  It's the right size and shape  to be 'Sharkskin' but the white markings make me think it's maybe ferdinandi regis.  I may have to go back and investigate next weekend.
 Leonotis

Let's step inside and try not to be frightened.

There was even a discount section.

Here I am in the garden with the non gardener offering advice.

Meanwhile, garden pal Alison is cutting back a few things.

Loree is still waiting for the new winter walls of the shade pavilion to be put up.

Glass pumpkins.

So much to see!

I used to decorate for Halloween but now just throw stuff out for autumn.

I love the mixture of old and new in this place and feel right at home here.

Another temptation but where would I put it?

Not what one usually expects to see coming out of an incubator. Hatching a little fright?

Lurking in the back by the tools and fertilizer were these two nearly life-sized reindeer, a reminder that Willow Tree's big Christmas open house is not far off.
My goal for the day was not to bring anything home.  So far, so good.

  2. I am not a huge Halloween fan but that is quite the place. Temps in the 30s overnight this week — or so they say. So I am totally envious of all those plants you can still enjoy in the garden. Love that Heuchera.

  3. Oh, I would have been so tempted to buy some of those Halloween decorations, I would leave them out in the garden all year. Especially those animal print witch hats, I want one of those. Such a fun post!

  4. The holiday season is on and moving at break-neck speed it seems. Time to get my skeleton out of the closet.

  5. Fun stuff! Good for you for coming home empty handed. Not so good for the nursery. Sometimes I feel guilty about the free entertainment. Do you?

    1. I seldom feel guilty about the free entertainment because I usually buy something. Having worked in retail before, I know that not all customers buy merchandise so enjoy the free entertainment guilt free. Besides, additional people help heat the place.

  6. What a way to begin a shopping expedition. So many temptations. I am amazed that you could resist. Good luck elsewhere.

    1. It's so much easier to resist plants in the fall when the garden and greenhouse are already so full.

  7. My poor Yucca 'Color Guard' is moving around a lot. I hope to have finally placed it correctly in a permanent home; I'd love for it start blushing. I also planted Heuchera ‘Red Lightning’ just last weekend. This is one I hadn't tried before.
Fun Halloween decorations. I liked how they decorated the inside of the coat closet with a mirror and a floor lamp; clever.

  8. Their decorators must surely have fun setting up their displays. I'm realizing just how close we are to full-on Christmas madness. Yikes!

  9. Was the Agave a great price? It is A. ferdinandi regis, also now known as A. nickelsiae...such a beauty. And yes...still waiting...

  10. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for such wonderful treat dear friend!

how nice to have such lovely and very interesting garden close to house :)

yea this is absolutely right that with less sunlight plants be unable to express their true bright colours

Loved the decor though it is quite scary lol
but many items are so beautiful too such as unusual tea cup and glass pumpkin!
