Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

A Sunny Summer Day at Squak Mountain Nursery

While autumn has its charms, I already miss the warmth of summer.  The nights are getting cold, the furnace has kicked on for the first time in months, most of the tuberous begonias have been reduced to a powdery mildew-covered mass of goop and falling leaves cover the garden paths and must be skimmed from the pond a couple of times a day.  Let's forget all that for a few moments and take a warm summer stroll through Squak Mountain Nursery.

I'm feeling warmer already.

What a fun arbor!

Let's check out the Garden Shed.

Silk Brugmansias  Hmmm.

Faux bois planters.

Stuff a go-go.

This chandelier would make a fabulous Monday vase!

There doesn't seem to be an end in sight for the cactus trend.

 Into the greenhouses

I remember feeling a bit sad seeing this huge house, previously stuffed with annuals now taken over by baby poinsettias. A nice worker told me that I should come back in October when these would all start showing color.  At the time that seemed far away and already the time is upon us.

Back outside, the strong fragrance of roses wafted.  It was 'Kiss Me' whose fragrance was so strong.  Hopefully I'll get it in the ground one of these days.

Happy weekend all.  Hope you're able to get outside and play.

  2. I think I visited this nursery several years ago at the height of summer, but it didn't have anywhere near as much stuff, in fact I seem to remember it being pretty bare. Maybe worth a second visit, next summer perhaps.

  3. I love Squak Mountain nursery, it's been a couple years since my last visit. (sounds like a confession). They have a wonderful natural scenic setting; I also enjoy driving on the old Issaquah-Renton road: it a wonderful drive in the country. I should hurry up and get there before the winter sets in.

  4. That chandelier is stunning. Alas my ceilings aren’t high enough for it to fit in my house and I’m not ready to move yet. Love how plants are combined in those first images in ways that suggest how to use them at home.

    1. The nursery folks here do a lot of displays that suggest good plant combinations. Easy to design seasonal pots that way too, for those who do that sort of thing.

  5. What another wonderful nursery you have shared with us. Love that funky arbor. It's hard to believe that your furnace has kicked in already and that plants are succumbing to cold temps. It is still hot and humid down here in s.e. FL.

Have a great weekend dear Peter ~ FlowerLady

    1. Oh my, hot and humid sounds divine right now. It's been raining all day with temperatures in the upper 40's.

  8. You not only have more nurseries than I can count but they also impress with the energy and creativity they put into their displays. I hope you have a pleasantly warm and sunny weekend.

  10. Beautiful setting for a nursery. Their stock looks good, too.

Hopefully there will be a little more warm sunny weather ahead for you.

  11. Watching your photos, Peter I feel warmth around my computer :-) That is summer came back with your pictures. I loved this one of a pond and gazebo in a distance, very pretty in a warm day.
Poinsettias are growing now and coloring their leaves to come to ours homes :-)

  12. Poinsettias already. Wow, time did fly again this year. Gorgeous photography as always, made me feel sunny on this gloomy day.

  13. The faux bois planters look nice, whatever they are. (Fake wood?)
