Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette
Off to a rocky start? Thick rhizomes of Darmera peltata are nearly ready to open umbrellas of foliage at Savage Plants.
Wednesday Vignette is hosted by Anna at Flutter and Hum. Click on over to her blog to see more!
Another plant that died of neglect in my garden. It just didn't get enough summer water. I thought I had it planted in the marshiest spot in my garden, but it still wasn't enough once things dry out in summer. It certainly is a strange looking rhizome.
I had to look up this plant to know what it was. I have admired pictures of this plant often. I read where it would grow in my zone 6 but I doubt it would like our summers. I will have to admire it from afar. It is interesting even in this state of growth or non growth.
Oh cool! I'm on the lookout for one of those... I have a client with a perfect spot for those. (Wish I did...)
ReplyDeleteAnd, those rhizomes are impressive. Look almost like granite, polished by millennia of trickling water.
DeleteI had to look up the plant as it's not one you commonly see here. Hard to believe that it starts off like that!

ReplyDeleteSuch humble beginnings for such a giant. ;)

ReplyDeleteWe moved a clump of ours last fall so I am excited to see what erupts, and where. The flower stalks come first, and are such fun.
ReplyDeleteUhm, mine must have gone the way of Alison’s... oh well... can’t have them all.
