Few words as we trod the familiar paths of this garden neath the columned cathedral of Douglas Fir.
Cyclamen tapestries.
Aralia californica chandeliers.
Begonia stained glass.
Coniferous woods.
Conlifferous Gunnera alisonifera.
Begonia pedatifida
Hydrangeas as big as your head.
Impatiens omeiana
Fasticularia bicolor
If your tree fern bites the dust, just plant another fern on top!
I want to plant this in my garden! Isn't it adorable?
Rodgersia
A hardy aloe.
I hope you enjoyed walking the garden as much as Alison and I did.
Visiting Heronswood is always filled with nostalgia for me as it was the place where I was introduced to so many awesome new plants that are now taken for granted as common things in my garden.
Got my morning off to a beautiful start. You two must have had agreat time.
ReplyDeleteThere's always a lot of laughter, fun, and plants when Alison and I get together.
DeleteWhat a Gunnera alisonifera! Peter I think you both spent a nice day strolling in this beautiful garden. It's not believable that it's fall, all is in bloom, wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky to live in a region where summer lingers into fall a bit longer than in the north.
DeleteI bet they don't move plants into a green house for winter. By some miracle the tree ferns survive. This garden is a marvel of esthetics and style; it has something for everyone. My Cyclamen is also blooming now but that is where the similarity ends :-)
ReplyDeleteYears ago, there were some agaves and non hardy bananas that spent the winter inside but now the extensive hoop houses of the nursery are gone and in their place a large parking lot. This is a good lesson for me that one can have an exquisite garden without hauling plants inside for the winter.
DeleteAh, the Corgii cuteus maximus! Not my cup of tea, but he is adorable. That was such a fun day, you are one of my favorite people to be silly with. You got some great photos too.
ReplyDeleteI so enjoy spending silly time with you and this magical garden with a plant sale going on to boot was a grand place for goofiness. It's probably a good thing that Tom is around to say no or I'd be hoarding animals as well as plants.
DeleteMagical as always! I tried that fern in a tree fern stump once, I couldn't get enough water to it to keep it alive...
ReplyDeleteRats!
DeleteWow, that gunnera. Beautiful walk through a wonderful garden.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful garden Peter, hope you are doing well.
ReplyDeleteIt is a very special place, Karen. Thanks, all is well!
DeleteOh, I love this! Definitely on my bucket list! That area with the columnar evergreens and Hakone grass is so artfully arranged. I'm going back to that photo now to get another look. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a masterfully created gem of a garden. When you're in the area, there are lots of other gardens worth touring as well!
DeleteOh, so beautiful! thank you for these photos. We really need to go see this garden again after so many years. How wonderful to see it looking so grand!
ReplyDeleteIt makes us all happy to see it looking good again.

Thank you Baili. I'm glad you enjoyed this special garden. The person in the photographs is my friend Alison who writes the blog Bonney Lassie.
DeleteA great way to start the day. All of those tall trees, add the huge leaved plants and the tree ferns it looks very Jurassic to me. I do wish I could grow that big gunnera. This place is not so simply marvelous.
ReplyDeleteYou could grow that gunnera if you moved out west. Come on over, the gardening's great!
Deletethis is one garden that never gets old no matter how many times i see it
ReplyDeleteIt looks so fabulous compared with my last visit during the debacle of the Burpee era. Thank goodness it was rescued form their clutches !
ReplyDeleteMy two favorite bloggers enjoying an amazing garden! We have nothing to match Heronswood here in the snow belt. Each photo is stunning, truly magical.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful stroll! Love the particularly exquisite variety of Gunnera.
