Wednesday Vignette


My pal, Anna, at Flutter and Hum hosts Vignette Wednesday, a bit like Wordless Wednesday only with words.  How fun is that? 

On my recent visit to Wells Medina Nursery, the echeveria lilacina had just been watered and I was fascinated by the way the water was held by the center of the plant. 

It also seems to be held away from the leaves by a layer of air.  (Having fun playing with photo editing tools.) The leaves are covered with a powder that repels liquid.




It looks a bit like ice, doesn't it?

    Photo editing is fun, isn't it? Although the 'natural' look is perfect in every way, I like your variations of the subject, ranging form soft powder to harsh mercury. It would make a dramatic series to hang on a wall.

      It's amazing to me what can easily and quickly be done with a computer now that used to take time and some know how in the darkroom.

    I've seen that on some of my plants and it reminds me of mercury. Yes indeed a thermometer broke when I was a kid and my brothers and I played with the mercury. Yikes!

      That explains so much! ;) I also got to play with mercury as a child. Kids are sometimes too sheltered these days and miss out on a lot of the wonder we experienced! I mean, really, who didn't pour gasoline on the boardwalk and light it with a match while the gas tank sat nearby?

    And I thought I was being so original, thinking of mercury. Kids were clueless way back when. This is a gorgeous photo essay.

    That is lovely. I also find the way plants hold water to be a fascinating study. Lupines with water droplets in their centers are exquisite. Great meme! I hope to join in soon. :)

    Thanks for joining in again, Peter! I love water on succulents - and your play with imaging tools broadens the scope quite a bit. So fun - there is no way I can pick a favorite - they are all cool! Love the icy look! The mercury discussion brings back memories. I too remember seeing the gray beads scatter over the bathroom floor when a thermometer was dropped. Wow... back in the day, huh?
