Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Get thee up into the high mountain

In looking at these pictures taken on a drive that my niece took me on  to Hatcher Pass, I am reminded of the Alto Aria and Chorus  O Thou That Tellest from Handel's Messiah .  Luckily it's appropriate for this last day of Advent!  There's a video of a performance of the piece at the end of this post if you'd like to listen while you look.

O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion,
     get thee up into the high mountain;

 O thou that tellest good tidings to
Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with strength;
lift it up, be not afraid;

 say unto the cities of Judah:
Behold your God!
Arise, shine,
for thy light is come,
 and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
[Isaiah 40:9; 60:1]

On this Christmas Eve and always may you be surrounded by love and filled with peace or at least filled with enough eggnog that you really don't care about your surroundings!

Here's a video of  # 8 & 9 from "Messiah" Alto Recit, Aria & Chorus.
