Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

And the Winner Is...

Last week, I announced a giveaway to celebrate my 100th post.  Today, I got to do the drawing.   By the way,  Vistaprint  gives away 250 free business cards (limited to 44 designs, you have to pay a nominal amount to choose from all their designs.)  One does have to pay for postage but it's much nicer to have a card when someone asks than to scribble on your plant receipt.  Since most of us do this for fun rather than the glamour and high salary, I thought I'd pass this along as I'm using my free cards for the drawing.

Now, to pick an appropriate drawing receptacle.   This way oversized cup might be nice, seasonally appropriate, and tasteful.

Helper number one thinks that it's a waste of time to try and be tasteful and appropriate.  Sticking her tongue out, she says, "It's never worked for you before!  You could see the names in this thing and be tempted to cheat!"

Well then, how about this interesting container that I got at a thrift store a few years ago?

Helper number two can't control her dismay.  "You know you have the mentality of a seventh-grade boy and would be sniggering the whole time thinking about getting into someone's pants.  Best to pass on that one."

Helper number three has an idea.  "How about using your head for once?"

I think he had a point so I'll use a head planter.  It'll be great I can still make a stupid pun like "can't get you out of my head" or something and it won't be horribly offensive.  Here we go, this one will work just fine.  It's deep enough that the drawer cannot see inside and silly enough for my dented sensibility.

Helper four doesn't care about any of this and would prefer to be asleep!   "I'm old, tired and don't have time for all this foolishness.  You young ones go have your fun but leave me alone!"

You've been on  my mind lately.  To where do these books want to head on out?  O.K. I'll stop but feel free to think of lot's more on your own.

It seems that David had all of you on his mind but Sue was foremost.   Congratulations Sue you are the winner.  If you would be so kind as to email me your full name and address privately, I'll get these in the mail to you.

  1. Congratulations Sue!

Hilarious, I remember those blue jean planters from the 1970's ceramics class era.

Tacky is so much more fun than tasteful and appropriate.

    1. Couldn't resist the blue jean planter! It's really well glazed and I remember seeing one in the movie "Between Friends" 1984 with Carol Burnett and Elizabeth Taylor.

I gave up tasteful and appropriate years ago along with houswork. Tacky just comes naturally to me.

    1. Thanks, the helpers are a lot of fun. Not much help with the drawing though. If they only had opposable thumbs!

    1. You're the Sue! Congratulations! The helpers have a strong moral compass. I seem to have misplaced mine along with my glasses which I'm still blurrily looking for.
