It's officially winter and the garden is offering some lovely small and highly fragrant blooms. On still sunny days, the garden's heady incense is a joy. Today's vase is a Chinese cloisonné bowl found at a thrift shop a couple of days ago for fifty cents. Into it went Lonicera fragrantissima, Sarcococca, Viburnum × bodnantense ‘Dawn,' some colorful calyxes of Abelia, and a couple of sprigs of Garrya elliptica. Just these few blooms are perfuming the entire room.
Joining the arrangement is this Japanes plate, a thrift store find from years ago.
Finally, a crystal cluster (milky quartz?) that looks a bit snowy and therefore appropriately wintery. I know little about rocks - they somehow follow me home .
As always, thanks to our marvelous host, Cathy at Rambling in the Garden for encouraging us to bring a little of the outside into our homes to enjoy each week. Click over to her

Well dear readers, that's it for 2018. May your new year be full of beauty, love, joy, and prosperity!
I'm more then a little envious that you have all those fragrant blooms; I don't have a single flower in my garden these days, fragrant or otherwise. But that's okay, the garden is still lush and provides greenery to my foliage only vase. I love the winter scene on the Japanese plate.
ReplyDeleteWhat a score on that new bowl, and you filled it with fragrance, nice work! Happy New Year Peter!
ReplyDeleteThe crystal cluster (it might be calcite rather than quartz but I can't be sure from the the pictures) and plate are perfect props for your vase of fragrant beauties, injecting a wintry oriental feel to the tableau. A perfect set-up, as always, so thanks for wittily sharing this perfection week after week
ReplyDeleteAs always, your vignettes are inspired! I envy you the fragrance of your blooms. I need to invest in more fragrant plants - as it stands, I'm awaiting the arrival of the Freesias.
ReplyDeleteAlas, none of those plants are going to give me any winter fragrance at this time of year. Lucky you. The plate with the "snow" clump in front of it is the perfect addition.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness--the plate and the vase are so pretty, as are the flowers and the other elements. Enjoy the beauty and the fragrance!
ReplyDeleteI was just writing my post for tomorrow and mentioned bringing in some sprigs of sarcococca to "smell up" the house.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty little composition.
Peter I wish you a wonderful New Year!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful, Peter. You have good luck at thrift stores - such great deals! :)
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful 2019.
Happy New Year Peter! A delightful arrangement!
ReplyDeleteSome lucky finds at the store. I can almost smell your arrangement. I like the snowy rock too. Heck, I like almost any rock. :) Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteYou certainly have a skill for bringing beautiful things together. Your arrangement looks oriental too, and I am sure your house smells lovely with these winter blooms. A very Happy New Year to you.

ReplyDeleteThese winter flowers raise the spirits, I love prowling round the garden looking for treasures like these. So pretty in the cloisonné. Love your crystal.
