Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette - Every Who down in Whoville Liked Christmas a Lot!

I set out on Sunday evening just as it was darkness descended to photograph this house but alas, the rain was coming down heavily and my camera doesn't enjoy the rain as much as we Pacific Northwesterners.  Fortunately, I found this image, "Christmas on Steroids," taken by Michael Jardeen of Jardeen Photography back in 2015 and Michael, a neighbor, has graciously given me permission to use his image.  The display changes  every year. They decorate the way I garden and it makes my grinchy heart grow a bit to observe this spectacle.   While the single string of white lights tastefully outlining rooflines has become de rigueur, this sort of joyous outpouring makes me smile.    May your dark season be warmed with child-like joy and love!

  1. I always wonder how long it takes people to install all that sparkle. I know it took me over a day (split over a few afternoons) to get the lights and lanterns up into my Magnolia tree. I lamented to my neighbors what a pain it would be to take it down, and they said "NOOO - don't take it down!!!" So, I didn't. Mind you, I don't generally turn them on until we hit the dark days of fall and winter. All this to say, that they double as holiday lighting as well, along with a few other additions. (See - I told you I'm lazy!)

How nice of you to mention The Creative Flux as well... after two weeks of flubs, I finally got my Vignette straight - LOL!

  4. What fun! There were Christmas displays like these a few blocks from my childhood home. It was a major holiday event to visit them, at least until the traffic in the area got crazy. There's nothing like that in my current location.

  6. I do love the exuberance of some of these people that are dedicated to make the world more cheerful for Christmas. How can one not be jolly looking at all of this?? Happy Wednesday.

  7. Looks awesome! We search out houses like this each Christmas just because they're so much fun to look at.... which I guess makes us the people who create too much traffic and then ruin it for everyone?
Even though I add a few new lights each season I don't think we'll ever reach this level of excellence!
