Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette and A Nice Surprise

Wednesday Vignette is hosted by my pal Anna at Flutter and Hum.  Click on over there to see vignettes from other participating bloggers!

We're accustomed to summer drought in the Pacific Northwest but we'd all like to see a bit of rain.
Dead eucalyptus fingers strumming the strings of a sky guitar.  Sun and blue sky are in the forecast for the next month and a half.

The Surprise was this blog post on my pal Tatyana's blog about her visit to my garden in July. Thanks Tatyana for sharing the beautiful pictures and very kind words.

  1. Blue skies seems to be a theme today. I'd like a little rain but I'm afraid to ask for it given the record rains in Houston.

  2. A sky guitar... you are such a poet! :) Will check out Tatyana's post later. Have to run to DEQ... Have a lovely day, Peter!

  3. I really enjoyed discovering Tatyana's post on FB last night. I think it's safe to say she LOVED your garden (and why wouldn't she?).

  4. I love the "sky guitar".
I found Tatyana's post yesterday. She did a great job of capturing the magic of your garden.

  5. I loved Tatyana's post. Her images are always so beautiful, and her words captured the childlike wonder of seeing your garden too. I really am wishing for some rain. I don't care about the water bill, I'm just so sick of hauling hoses and sprinklers around on hot days. That is a nice shot of the eucalyptus.

  7. Blue skies are always pretty but I can appreciate the call for a little rain - we're in the middle of an extended heatwave, expected to continue for at least another week and there's not a drop of rain in the forecast for the next 60 days. As to Tatyana's post, she did your garden proud!

  8. I'm glad others post about your garden every once in a while, because you're showing us just a tiny sliver of what's there. Shocking "before" photos (the best kind).

  9. Thanks for the link to Tatyana's blog. Her pictures were great, as was your garden. I could really see the 'hand' of the artist. :) The fat David made me laugh out loud. And in my heat-of-the-summer yard your dappled shade is just amazing.

  11. And this is another great post about what we can see when we look up. So often, we're looking down at the forbs on the ground, but the trees and tall plants above are equally interesting. Tatyana's post was great! We just had a little storm this evening--just enough to water the garden nicely without floods. I'm feeling empathy for friends and acquaintances in the Gulf Coast.

  13. Clever photo!
Weather is abnormal everywhere - disconcertingly, it is the new 'normal.'
