I've done previous posts about visiting Joy Creek Nursery (
here) and as always, this visit found the nursery packed with great plants. On this visit, the glorious abundance of May, the blue sky, warm air, beautiful setting, and freshness of foliage caused me to linger even longer in the garden than usual. Come along with me. Lots of pictures few words.
The folks who work at Joy Creek are as warm and welcoming as the garden itself.
Hooray, I'm not the only one with bamboo culms emerging where they're unwanted.
Hello, Joy Creek, can you cram all of this into my small urban plot?
Happy weekend everyone!
Joy Creek has one of the most beautiful display gardens around!
ReplyDeleteIt really is lovely!
DeleteIt is a beautiful garden! If only I could afford a large staff to beat my garden into shape. LOL
ReplyDeleteJohn (Aberdeen)
You and me both, John!
DeleteAll these beautiful meandering paths... what is the little house in garden? I've never been to Joy Creek and there must be a story there I'm not aware of. And where does one come across such a magnificent log?
ReplyDeleteTGIF
I hear the TGIF! It was a long week. I think that the house came with the property as did the old barn that's not pictured. I love it as it makes this garden seem like it exists around a private residence.
DeleteAn explanation about the house: That is the house I have lived in since I bought the property, Before the startup of the nursery. The company offices are in the basement and I live upstairs. The 1931 house is about 2700 sq. ft. Mike
DeleteSo nice to see recent pics of Portland fling destinations, brings back so many great memories!
ReplyDeleteThat was a fun fling, wasn't it? We must do it again sometime!
DeleteBeautiful day, beautiful photos. Where is their Embothrium?
ReplyDeleteTheir Embothrium is on a path to the left of the house, close to the edge of the garden.
DeleteNot only do your nurseries sell botanical wonders, they also have luscious grounds! It's unusual to find strolling gardens in any of our nurseries or garden centers.
ReplyDeleteDo you suppose that the cost of real estate in the greater Los Angeles area makes this impossible? Just one more reason for you to move on up or at least visit your family on Vashon Island!
DeleteLoved that garden! Did you accidentally touch the electric fence when trying to get a photo of the bamboo? Not that I did that... just wondering. ;)
ReplyDeleteYou're so funny! I've been a little cautious around electric fences since I was about six years old and my brother convinced me that I should pee on one.
DeleteA lovely virtual stroll. Thanks! I wanted to follow everyone to Joy Creek, but had to head home and didn't need any temptation to buy more plants. I've never noticed the Embothrium there! I'll have to make a point of finding it next time I'm there.
ReplyDeleteSince you've been living part time down there, you could visit JC anytime but it would have been fun to see you there.
DeleteHow I love visiting Joy Creek, but have never been this early in the season. Thanks for alternate view !
ReplyDeleteIt's always lovely but the rhododendrons in bloom really added a lot of color.
DeleteWe haven't been there for a long time. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou're more than welcome!
DeleteThank you Peter! I visited it almost a month ago, but I see that alliums and Irises are still blooming! I bought several shrubs which I spotted on my walk around the house, they advertised themselves without anyone's help!
ReplyDeleteTheir garden is full of treasures! It's wonderful that you found some to add to your own fabulous garden!
DeleteI really enjoyed my Fling visit--hope I get to see it again someday. You are right, the people were as friendly and helpful as the place was gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThe photo with all the purple iris--oooohh! Good one!
They really are a great bunch of folks! That's been my experience with most plant people.
DeleteThose colours and the blue sky are very welcome on this grey and wet English day.
ReplyDeleteWe had a taste of summer earlier but now gray skies and more typical spring temperatures and precipitation have returned.
DeleteThose paths are all becoming very familiar to me. I take a little different route through the gardens every time I leave work. You got some swell shots. There's no such thing as a bad day to visit Joy Creek.
ReplyDeleteWhile there are always favorite parts of the garden that I seek out during every visit, there are always new surprises as well.
DeleteHaving never been to Joy Creek, I really enjoy seeing photos. Yours sure didn't disappoint. What a fantastic place.
ReplyDeleteIt really is very special!
DeleteAnother stunning candy store for you to enjoy! What an inspiring garden.
