A slave to the Goddess Flora shares his garden adventures.

Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.
It stayed on the wall for a few hours before flying away when one of the kids tried to touch it. A nice treat and I'd not seen one with teal markings (don't show up well in the pictures) before.
Fun to see a dragon fly up close. Beautiful design of nature and I love all the colors on the tail. The wings would make a great pattern for stained glass...
Mr. Tiffany came up with his famous dragonfly stained glass lamp shade years ago and people have been making them since. Those wings are pretty gorgeous!
Yes, for 28 years, the first three in Alaska, my home state, and the last 25 in Washington - Music K - 12 for the first three, Music K - 6 for the next six and then self contained special ed for the last nineteen. Fell in love with the children with special needs who came to me for music, went back to school to get a special ed endorsement and switched. Still direct choirs and perform so am still a little active in music.
I like the way they look like they have a smile painted on, and the strength of the structures to hold and move their wings. They are fantastic flyers, great shots! My sister taught in special ed, she had to rely on her wrestling skills from her childhood of 4 siblings to deal with some rather large disturbed kids.
What a visual treat for students. As kids, we used to call them 'snake doctors.'

DeleteDragonflies are so beautiful. I've seen more this year, and earlier, than I remember in past years. I wonder if it means something about the weather.
ReplyDeleteIt means that there most definitely will be weather!
DeleteThe kids must have been thrilled!
ReplyDeleteI think the adults were as excited as the kids!

DeleteDid the kids name him?
ReplyDeleteNo, they just looked with adult reminders not to touch.
DeleteHe doesn't look real! I thought he was made of metal at first.
ReplyDeleteHe does look strangely artificial on the concrete background!
DeleteGreat pictures! Nice, subtle colors. It's a good thing it was ready for a close-up.
ReplyDeleteHe posed for the longest time, like he wanted the fame!
DeleteMy, what big eyes you have.
ReplyDeleteThe better to see you with my dear!
DeleteHe' s beautiful and matches the background so well. He looks like an ornament. If you could size him up he' d make a fabulous garden sculpture.
ReplyDeleteHe would be a great addition to a Calvin Klein outfit. The colors are perfect.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed!
DeleteSooo lovely, I adore dragonflies!
ReplyDeleteThey're pretty swell!
DeleteCool! I recommend telling the kids that they are aliens from another planet.
ReplyDeleteAn excellent idea!
DeleteThat must have been so exciting for everyone.
ReplyDeleteThe kids thought it was interesting but we adults were crazy happy about it.
DeleteI'm with Kris. I thought it was a sculpture. Pretty cool. Are you a teacher?
