Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

In A Vase (sort of) on Monday/Foliage Follow Up

This Sunday, members of the Cascade Cactus and Succulent Society from Seattle came down to visit my garden and I also guided them through the garden of my friend Florence who was out of town. It was such a joy to meet and share with other plant obsessed people. I learned a lot just listening to them and asking questions.   As much fun as it was, I wanted to relax for a time and so am simply using plants in containers that already exist in my garden.

In A Vase On Monday is hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden and Foliage Follow-Up is hosted after Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day each month by Pam at Digging. Follow the links; join in the fun!

This lovely lady just got named Linda at Linda Letters because the gorgeous gallon of Mondo Grass came home with me from her open garden on Saturday.  (All plants $1.00 - can't beat that!)

Restarting sempervivum in this container.  I don't quite understand sempervivum - sometimes they take off and reproduce like mad and then peter out altogether, other times they stay forever. The semps that lived here previously were gloriously happy for several years and then decided to be done.

Something a little different this year in Burl's (Rare Plant Research) "pumpkin" planter.

Here are a couple of things I put together from odds and ends of succulents.  These were some of the several runners-up for my entry in Loree's Aeonium Challenge

This one combined Alison's tillandsias with succulents.

Speaking of tillandsias, here's an idea found at GardenSphere Nursery.  Had to bring one home!
There you have it, this week's lazy contribution to IAVOM!  Happy Monday!

  1. Yes, you might call it a lazy contribution to the meme, but anyone with the number of pots all planted up that your garden contains is definitely not a lazy gardener!

  3. I've noticed that about Sempervivums too. Just replanted previously super looking, and now they look awful. Don't want to get squeamish about those; they're the one thing I'm never afraid of digging & dividing.

    1. It was fun to have the group come through and I so enjoyed meeting and chatting with them! Tom, bless his heart, took pictures and videos so I was able to watch later. I'm definitely going to open for the NPA next summer.

  5. A one-gallon container of black mondo grass for $1!!! I'm so in shock I can't get past it to make any other comment.

    1. Linda was so gracious and offered to give me any that I wanted. Usually her granddaughter runs "Irene's Flower Shop" in the shed and sells grandma's plant divisions and cut flowers. This year Irene was on vacation but there were still plants available including some agaves also for only a buck apiece.

  10. The semps don't last for long here. Maybe it's too warm? Nurseries offer them, but I say nooo, not again. You have a wonderful way with these pots, Peter.

    1. Thank you, Denise, I'm mostly a one plant/one pot kind of guy but sometimes it's fun to play with mixing things up.
