Oh look, plants! There was a nursery beside the highway on the way up that was having a sale so the plant mobile stopped in the parking lot and left with a few items.
The flat circular rocks intrigue me and a few may have made their way into my pocket as we walked along.
Turns out that when you fill all of your pockets with stones, your pants don't like to stay up.
We walked down to several beaches. Some had a few people walking around and on others we were almost alone. Tom brought kites which we had great fun flying. (Easier after pockets are emptied of rocks.)
Life is such a fleeting thing.
A moment in time, a puff of smoke, a dim memory.
Kalaloch Lodge is a favorite place to stop because of this view. There are rooms in the lodge itself and also individual cabins where pets are welcome. We've stayed in a cabin before and enjoyed it thoroughly. This visit, we stopped long enough to have dinner (delicious) at the lodge.
The weathered wood of the lodge contrasts beautifully with the vibrant colors of nasturtiums.
We didn't get home until relatively late so you get a bit of the beach today. Back to gardens tomorrow!
Looks like a great place -- IMO nothing better than a deserted beach!
ReplyDeleteOh, this looks lovely! Most of my life, my ocean was the Atlantic. The beaches are so very different. Thanks for the pronunciation guide.
ReplyDeleteLooks fabulous. Like Alison, appreciate the pronunciation. Of course you had to have a few rocks. Years ago, I carried a 5 pounders for a couple miles--and I still have it. It's a terrific touch stone since it was our last book babes retreat with the fabulous Keiko Bailey--who left us when she was just 48.
ReplyDeleteNext time, don't forget a strong belt.
Thanks for sharing such a beautiful day with us. We have many rocks collected on beach walks. Though I've been to both oceans, I am a Great Lakes girl having grown up on Erie, lived across the road from Ontario and now am in the land of Michigan and Superior.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery! And none of the smog I see when I look out at the harbor here!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your adventure. Looks like it was lovely.
ReplyDeleteAAAh...a beach break...just what I needed today.
ReplyDeleteThe beaches here are so different from the ones in Alabama. I am looking forward to another visit.
ReplyDeleteThe Washington beaches are so wild and wonderful. Great get-away.
ReplyDeleteIt looks a stunning place, I'm surprised some of the driftwood didn't come home with you too!
ReplyDeleteThose rocks are magnificent, I'd have filled my pockets too. Your post has a touch of melancholy to it, I hope you're both okay.
ReplyDeleteReading your post alone made me feel relaxed, what more if you're actually there :) lovely!
ReplyDeleteWhat a view: I imaging that's what native peoples used to wake up to every day. Nothing more fun then beach combing: if only it was possible to fit one of these drift woods in a pocket...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos, Peter. The cabins at Kalaloch Lodge were a favorite place to stay for my family when I was younger. It's been years now since I've been on the west coast of the peninsula.
ReplyDeleteA plant sale and a beach, sounds like my perfect day. Next time, have the meal before filing the pockets with stones?
