Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette

An ornithological puzzler. This grassy nest, containing a single egg was seen at Jungle Fever Nursery recently.  Can you identify to which species of bird this might belong?   Frankly, I'm puzzled.

Wednedsay Vignette is hosted by the brilliant and fun Anna at Flutter and Hum.  Click here to join in the fun.

  1. I think it was laid by a giant dodo. ;)

  2. Are you teasing us? Is it maybe a fruit?

I think maybe a chicken egg like Araucana, black copper marans, others

    1. It's really a bowling ball placed in the middle of a carex that seeded itself in the gravel at the nursery.

  7. Fun. I remember when bowling balls in the garden were all the rage. Still see them here and there.

  8. I'm with Tammy and Loree, but that dodo had an eye for design.

  9. I have an egg just like that, but it's never hatched in over a decade. Kinda scary.

    1. Did you sit on the egg? They won't hatch without some TLC.

  10. I would have guessed a red apple, but since I'm so late to the party, I read the comments. What a fun idea! Is this the same place that has those Escheresque lizard tiles? If so, I really need to visit! So fun...!
