An ornithological puzzler. This grassy nest, containing a single egg was seen at Jungle Fever Nursery recently. Can you identify to which species of bird this might belong? Frankly, I'm puzzled.

I think it was laid by a giant dodo. ;)
ReplyDeletePossibly...
DeleteYep, what Tammy said.
ReplyDeleteMkay...
DeleteAre you teasing us? Is it maybe a fruit?
ReplyDeleteI think maybe a chicken egg like Araucana, black copper marans, others
It's really a bowling ball placed in the middle of a carex that seeded itself in the gravel at the nursery.
DeleteThat's where I left my bowling ball! Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you and your bowling ball were here and you didn't stop by!
DeleteWhatever it is, I suggest standing back when the shell cracks!
ReplyDeleteGood advice, Kris!
DeleteHow fun! Some exotic bird perhaps? ;)
ReplyDeleteMust be, it was in the jungle after all.
DeleteAvocado pit? Doesn't matter--cool photo!
ReplyDeleteRight shape. Bowling ball.
DeleteFun. I remember when bowling balls in the garden were all the rage. Still see them here and there.
ReplyDeleteThey're still all over my garden from before they were all the rage.
DeleteI'm with Tammy and Loree, but that dodo had an eye for design.
ReplyDeleteThat's our Jerry at Jungle Fever. He comes up with fun ideas all of the time!
DeleteI have an egg just like that, but it's never hatched in over a decade. Kinda scary.
ReplyDeleteDid you sit on the egg? They won't hatch without some TLC.
DeleteI would have guessed a red apple, but since I'm so late to the party, I read the comments. What a fun idea! Is this the same place that has those Escheresque lizard tiles? If so, I really need to visit! So fun...!
