Walking in the front door, we're greeted by this.
Clever idea.
I love looking at these exhibition chrysanthemums but know that I wouldn't have the patience to actually grow them.
Do you grow exhibition mums? It must be very rewarding to see such results.
Seems that the Seymour heard about Loree's ornamental cabbage and kale challenge.
There is usually cute seasonal photo op area. Just add your own family and click away! I wonder if we could get the dogs to sit still on one of those bales of hay?
Around the corner in the tropical area...
Wanna hang out in the Spanish Moss with this guy?
Variegated Monstera deliciosa. I really dig that completely ghostly white leaf!
No matter what the weather outside, it's always summer here!
It's always a thrill to visit this huge agave!
Back out through the mums.
What do you think of these giant chrysanthemums? I think that they're really interesting cut flowers for sure.
In some outlying areas it got below freezing on Tuesday night. Hope our little visit to the Seymour has warmed you a bit!
So many Mums. One's I've never seen before. Thanks for the fun tour !
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to have you along on these little jaunts!
DeleteDrooling, drooling drooling .... Beam me up to Seymour (see more).
ReplyDeleteWould someone please get Jane a tissue, she seems to be having a saliva issue. They are fun to visit!
DeleteIt's good that someone has the patience for those spectacular mums so we can enjoy them. What a nice place to visit right in your neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteIt's sure swell to have this place so close to home!
DeleteGetting exhibition mums to produce that one spectacular flower is too much work for me. They sure are pretty, though, and I enjoyed seeing our photos of them. I really need to get back to the Seymour some time.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, it's always fun to visit and since it's so close to my place, we could do lunch or go nursery hopping as well!
DeleteOh the Seymour...why can't Portland have a conservatory!? That variegated Monstera is fab, especially the white leaf. Some of the mum flowers are pretty, the plants are just so ugly!!!
ReplyDelete'Cause Portland has everything else, that's why. Although the flowers are pretty long lasting as flowers go, there would still be quite a bit of the year to spend with just the foliage.
DeleteFabulous flowers. I love victorian conservatories. Ever visited the one in Volunteer Park in Seattle? Speaking of mums: last year I bought two 4" pots of ajania pacifica in a clearance sale. I saw this plant on tidewatergardener blog and fell in love. It's true that the flowers aren't magnificent as the examples shown here, but I love the leafs and hardiness or it year-round.
ReplyDeleteI've seen videos and pictures of the conservatory at Volunteer Park but have never seen it myself. I remember Ajania pacifica from tidewater gardener's post and thought that it looked lovely!
DeleteI like the spidery form of the mums in the last photo. Several of the others are quite pretty too. I just don't like them massed together. Funny how so many people do that with Dahlias as well as mums. OK, I guess, if it is being treated as a cutting garden. Otherwise, thumbs down from this critic.
ReplyDeleteThe flowers are gorgeous. Mums don't grow well in my area so I don't bother with them and I agree with Loree that the plants themselves are ho hum but I would turn down a bouquet of those magnificent blooms. Didn't you name the flowers last year? I seem to remember that you had some very colorful, descriptive names for each variety you photographed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour. Strelitzia are my favorite tropical plant.
ReplyDeleteI love the Seymour. Their displays are always wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI have cruised through your last posts to catch up. Prolific posters like you are hard to keep up with when I take four days away from blogging. Loved it all!
I am glad there are people in this world who have the time, ability, and will to grow these mums so that the rest of us can enjoy them.
