Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

The Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden Part 2 - Seike Japanese Garden

Another rescued and relocated garden treasure of the SeaTac Botanical garden is the Seike Japanese Garden which has a fascinating history which can be found here.  I'll shut up for a change, and let the beauty of this space speak for itself.

Meanwhile, back at the sale-

This is not a huge sale but there were some choice plants.

The iris society cleverly set up pots of plants for sale next to examples growing in the iris beds of the garden.

Lilium mackliniae

The Dwarf Bearded Iris were looking quite nice.

Toward the back of the garden, near the work area was this semi-circle of cinder block planters.  Blockhenge?

I didn't buy anything at the sale but was tempted by the lily.  Since the plant mobile was already in the area, I decided to visit Furney's Nursery.  They always have something interesting to gaze upon.  You'll have to wait until next week to hear the sad news.

  1. Some really terrific Iris for sale. I've looked at that lily on line but usually it's always sold out.

  2. Another garden rescued to become part of this one? Wow! I'll have to see this place next time I'm in the area.

  4. I have very few bearded iris in my garden, but there are some very tempting examples here that may make me rectify that. I'm not a big fan of Japanese gardens, but this one does look very peaceful.

  5. A beautiful public garden combined with a plant sale - I can't think of anything better. Blockhenge is interesting in concept but difficult to warm up to in reality - maybe it'll look better when the plants develop.

  8. We used to visit the Japanese Garden too, when it was part of Des Moines Way Nursery, another loss to the third runway. So glad they were able to save it too.
About Furneys, that is a huge loss to us that will not be saved.

  9. Japanese gardens create the most unique and beautiful vignettes. I have never seen one that I didn't love and wanted to emulate.
