A slave to the Goddess Flora shares his garden adventures.

Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.
This one has a very sweet fragrance, a bit like lily of the valley, that is more noticeable on warm days. It throws a few blooms out during the summer and the fragrance then is amazing!
Thanks, Alan. This is just outside my kitchen window above the pond. The sun was just coming up that morning and coloring the garden so beautifully. I grabbed my camera and ran out the door in my bathrobe so as not to miss the glorious light.
I hear you sister! I long to have Magnolia grandiflora 'Teddy Bear' for it's great large leathery leaves with brown fur on the backsides. It's a lovely thing to see year round, makes great wreaths, and also has flowers in the summer. Well, really a host of other magnolias as well but I'm out of space for thirty foot trees!
That was soft early morning light and the pond is just below the magnolia. I'm thinking that I'll just pull the liner away from the sides a bit and dig away the "shelves" on the sides, clean it up and get new fish. They are such a joy and I think that it should be a relatively simple fix.
Beautiful. Magnolia trees in full bloom just shout Spring!
ReplyDeleteDo they have a fragrance? The old tulip magnolia here is a darker color and smells like watermelon.

DeleteWonderful Peter! Is this in your own garden? (I still don't have a good sense of your whole space)
ReplyDeleteGreat lighting. Morning?

DeleteGorgeous photos, especially that last one of your pond/waterfall, with the Buddha statue. There are so many all around, just bursting with color.
ReplyDeleteI love this time of year with all of the trees blooming, the petals falling/ blowing in the wind. It's magical!
Delete*sigh*...so many magnolias, so little garden.

DeleteBeautiful magnolia shots, with soft early morning (?) light.
ReplyDeleteThe last photo reminded me of your pond. Any going ons there?

DeleteThe queen of spring flowering trees!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed!
DeleteAbsolutely fabulous.
ReplyDeleteThank you! (Loved that show!)
DeleteWonderful photos
ReplyDeleteThank you, Chloris!
DeleteThe light! The light!
ReplyDeleteIt was a beautiful moment!
DeleteSumptuous lighting beautifully caught!
ReplyDeleteThanks. It was a lucky confluence - sun in March and camera close by.
DeleteSigh. They're stunning! They make my heart sing.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Sometimes I get lucky.
DeleteBeautiful! Too bad they take up so much room for something so fleeting.
ReplyDeleteAin't it the truth about the space? This one actually puts out a few sporadic flowers through the summer but mostly, it's the really big show now.
DeleteGorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kris!
DeleteExcellent work! Such luscious blooms!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda! I'm so lucky that someone planted that right outside my kitchen window!
DeleteWow, that last shot is especially beautiful.
