Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Happy Friday; random happiness

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of working at Jungle Fever Exotics, one of my favorite nurseries.  Poking around the back of the greenhouse, I saw this.  I didn't know that opuntias would do that.  Is that adorable or what?

This opuntia basilaris caught my eye a few weeks before and I had decided that it would come home with me at the end of the day but a very nice couple came in and fell in love with it.  I get as much of a thrill out of selling something that I think is cool to someone who'll love it as I do when buying it myself.  Vicarious plant shopping - fun!

Just up the street from Jungle Fever is a small neighborhood grocery store that's been there forever.  Recently, this cheerful mural appeared on the side of the building.  It makes me smile everytime I see it!

On Monday of this week the sunrise was gorgeous.  The sun was actually rose colored but I was in a hurry and didn't have time to play with filters and what not to try to capture the true color.  This shot is kind of interesting, though.

Hope you all have the best weekend ever!

  2. Have a great weekend! Pretty nice roundup of randomness for a rainy Friday. Yes, it does rain here.

I've not been very good at blogger memes, but "Random Fridays" sounds like something I could do consistently.

    1. We haven't had rain here for quite some time which is fairly normal for this time of the year. We soggy PNWers are starting to miss precipitation a little.

    2. To be consistently random or randomly consistent that is the question.

  3. I love it! I have been working part time at Cedar Rim Nursery! You are right, it is fun to sell people really cool plants. The only problem I find is that everyone wants to buy bulbs and huechera. One day a palm lover will come in and I can go all palm geek on them!

  9. Great Opuntia shots! I have a friend who always "plants" her Opunita pads by just laying them on the ground horizontally so there are multiple growing points like what you show, plus it makes them a little more stable and she doesn't have to worry about them tipping over.

Oh and there are multiple Opuntia basilaris waiting for you on your next trip to Cistus!
