I think that most flowers look best outside, they last longer & most of the time when flowers are in bloom I prefer to be outside anyway. I make exceptions for things like lilacs, sweet peas, (who wouldn't want a room full of those fragrances?) and dahlias. However, one flower that I think actually looks better in a vase than in the garden is gladiolus. Imagine my delight to find this on my desk at work on Tuesday:
This elegant vase which is about two and a half feet tall seems perfect for glads. Nearly four feet of loveliness towered over my work space, the gift of a coworker. I would have never purchased something like this for myself but am enjoying the dickens out of it! There was also a beautiful fruit boquet made by another coworker but some little pig ate part of it for lunch so it isn't particularly photogenic any more. As if this wasn't overwhelming enough, my student teacher brought me a gorgeous white orchid, my first orchid of any kind. I'm leaving that one at work as it's less likely that I'll kill it there. I work with the best team in the world and their daily presence is the true gift but it was so sweet of them to think of me in this way!
What a wonderful surprise. That must be really great to be surrounded by such wonderful and caring people. It's certainly a blessing.
ReplyDeleteMuch as I'd love to stay home and garden all the time, I'm pretty lucky to work where and with whom I do.
ReplyDeleteHow fantastic, that vase is beautiful and the flowers are perfect for it. Sounds like a lovely surprise
ReplyDeleteYes it was!
DeleteThe vase perfectly matches the flowers, how kind and thoughtful your workmates are.
ReplyDeleteThey're pretty wonderful!
DeleteI do love gladioli in a vase! Yours is lovely! Was it your Birthday?
ReplyDeleteIt was my birthday and it was so sweet for my co workers to be so generous!
DeleteI agree with you 100% re: glads in a vase rather than in a garden! And those are really pretty--they were so well matched with that vase, too. Lovely. :-)
ReplyDeleteIf I ever have space for a hidden cutting garden, I'll grow rows and rows of glads!
DeleteSuch a lovely present. It's nice to go to work when you are so welcome back.
ReplyDeleteI agree!
