Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Hooked on The Work and Garden of The Creative and Talented Judi Hook!

I've known Judi for several years now, since she had me make some fused glass for some of her work.  Her style has changed since then and she no longer uses glass.  Fortunately our friendship has continued and I get to see her beautiful garden and gorgeous work occasionally. See previous posts here.   Here are some shots from our most recent visit a few weeks ago:

I never tire of looking at these bursts of color.  Each one is unique and contains lots of surprises to discover.

Kalmia latifolia is beautiful in bloom but even more spectacular in bud!

Judi's deciduous azaleas were in full and fragrant bloom, an olfactory treat I hadn't experienced in her garden before.  It was tempting to simply stay here and become intoxicated by the fragrance but there was so much more to see!

A sphere by James King.  This is where I stole the idea was inspired to emulate the effect.

One of Judi's new pieces of bling that she calls Pinky. It's placed so that she can see it from inside her house.

Judi and her assistant pose with Pinky.

You may remember some of these pieces from previous posts.  Seeing them always thrills me.

Her creatures are way cool!

This one was a gift and made by someone else.  Isn't it sweet?

Doesn't every garden need one of these?

Raw materials.  I'd no idea that these are now in high demand by collectors.  I still have quite a few of them found at thrift stores for five bucks a bunch.  Some colors are so unusual that people are bidding hundreds of dollars for a bunch.  Really?  It's resin folks.  (Retro resin!)  Thinking that we certainly have the technology to make these things in modern times, I found this you tube instructional video. I'm seeing a fun craft for summer!  Written directions here.

Candy!  Well at least eye candy.

New little guy in progress.

Will it pass inspection by the assistant?

Aren't they cool?  They can be used as ornamental mulch for potted plants.

Thank you, Judi, for another fun visit and for the gorgeous gift!  Wasn't it nice of Tom to dress to match? (Photo by Judi Hook and used with her permission.)

Happy weekend everyone!

Typeless Tuesday - Allium Seed Heads in My Garden

This was going to be a Wordless Wednesday post but I got busy yesterday and didn't get anything else done for today so Typeless Tuesday it is!  These allium seed heads looked especially lovely one morning.

And this "Seed Pod" is a new addition to my garden by Judi Hook.

A Return to Judi Hook's Garden

I love garden art and am especially fond of the work of Judi Hook.  Fortunately, she enjoys sharing her latest work with me.  See some previous visits here.  A few weeks ago, I got to see what Judi's been up to lately.

I love this combination of metal  and one of her  her "seed pods"

Rusty and shiny two of my favorite things!

A new colossal-siced (nearly 4 feet) piece.  This bright orange color reminds me of the sun.

These simply glow when the sun hits them!

Warm colors are especially welcome in the winter when they brighten our gray days.

Allium on steroids.  This one may need to come home with me someday soon.

Judi has started powder coating some of her work.  I love this sparkly blue/purple color!

The powder coating transforms these into elegant pieces for gardeners who aren't fond of rusty metal.

Another of the combination pieces.

Plum and orange. Delicious!

Judi runs a horse boarding business, rides and shows horses  which explains the fences everywhere.   This new work is in a field behind her studio in the barn.

Walking through the barn was quite a treat as I haven't been around horses for years.  They're such beautiful animals.  The sound of birdsong in the barn was delightful.  Judi pointed out many swallow nests.  She looks forward to their returning to nest each year.  Is that cute or what?

Judi's still working her magic growing sempervivum on rocks.

A neighbor asked Judi to make a finial for his flagpole; she came up with this and liked it so much that she made one for herself and is displaying it on driftwood.

Revisiting some old friends.

So excited was I with looking at her latest creations that I forgot to take many pictures of he gorgeous gardens.

I hope you enjoyed seeing this new stuff.  If you'd like to purchase any of Judi's work, give her a call at (253) 847 - 2937.  I know someone who will be driving to Portland for the fling and would be delighted to bring any of it to you!
