The garden is designed so that there are surprises around every corner, even in long expanses like the one below where one might imagine that everything was visible
Fused glass flowers.
So many stunning foliage combinations.
Looking toward the back of the house.
Clever use of Acorus between stepping stones.
I'm in love with these ceramic, larger-than-life asparagus spears. The excellent placement doesn't hurt, either.
There is also plenty of outdoor living space.
Out in front a golden catalpa glows in the sun on one side of this bed while a coppiced paulownia offers more huge foliage. Was there a Magnolia macrophylla in there as well? It was so exciting being in this garden that I've forgotten.
Musa basjoo waking up for the season. The nursery sign is just beyond.
What a treat to find this wonderful garden as well as the nursery1
What a rich source of ideas. I had been thinking of moving some gold Hakonechloa and seeing your pix, I realize that Acorus would work much better. I want that grassy yellow but not so tall. And the asparagus is fabulous. I love fruit and veggie art.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing all the nursery/garden adventures. I really enjoy seeing them. I wish I lived closer so I could visit myself they are all so beautiful.

ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful find! We'll have to keep it in mind if/when we get up that way again!
"On Saturday, the day of getting lucky..." that statement just begs for a little prying innuendo, but since this is a family friendly blog I will not go there.
ReplyDeleteI like the way you think my friend. Alas it was just lucky with the weather which was supposed to be rainy all day but turned sunny for Sorticulture, lucky to find a new nursery, lucky to get that shot of the butterfly.
DeleteI visited Sunnyside Nursery in Marysville 3 years sago when I went up to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. Great nursery, but I don't remember a display garden being open. Bummer! Thanks for sharing it. I like the look of Acorus in the paving stones.
ReplyDeleteHow nice of them to open their private garden area to nursery visitors. I'm also in love with those asparagus spears.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness--there's so much fabulousness here! Where do I start? You always do the best garden center posts, Peter! The pathways...the asparagus spears...the foliage combos...delightful!
ReplyDeleteOh Peonies my impossible dream! sigh!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos of the nursery, Peter. I liked colorful combinations and stony paths,
ReplyDeletehappy GBBD!
The shady corner of picture number three is perfection! They also created lovely and unusual paths I wouldn't mind emulating.
ReplyDeleteFollow the yellow brick, I mean yellow Acorus road. It does give a nice sprinkling of yellow. It would make you pay attention to where you walk. This garden is full of ideas. Yummy.
ReplyDeleteYes, the acorus in the paving slabs really works. And I love the funky asparagus.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun garden.
