"I really don't need any more plants and don't want to buy anything but we should go to Hortlandia, just for the fun of the road trip and to chat with a friend or two." he said as they hopped in the car at 7:00 a.m. "No, we don't need to get those bags of potting soil and other garden do-dads out of the trunk. I can't imagine buying anything that won't fit in the back seat of the car."
"Well, since we've already made the two hour trip, we really should check out some nurseries after the sale, right?" escaped his lips after spending time at Hortlandia. (and maybe picking up a few plants.)
One giant plant sale and five nurseries later and not only the back seat was full.
Wednesday Vignette is hosted by Anna at Flutter and Hum. Click here to join the fun!
And wishing that you have removed those bags of potting soil :) great looking plant haul!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Hortlandia is such an amazing event and it's always a joy to visit nurseries in a different town.
DeleteOMG Peter .. you guys should know better .. not buy plants ? are you MAD ???
ReplyDeleteI laughed just reading THAT ! ... I am so jealous .. you can't even imagine.
These look lovely !.. if you find you can't handle them all, I will send you my mailing address .... just in case ? wink wink ... LOL !!!!!
You're right, what was I thinking? Hope your snow melts soon so that you can join in the plant fun!
DeleteHa! As if we didn't know it would happen. I even spot another Podophyllum tuck in there.
ReplyDeleteGood noticing that Podophyllum. It's Podophyllum spp. Form A from Woodland Way Nursery. It looks a bit like one I already have but one never knows what will happen as the season progresses as many of them look quite similar at this time of year. They seem to cross pollinate a bit and it's always exciting to introduce a different specimen to the gene pool.
DeleteOh, nice Podophyllum! I bought another brown one too at Hortlandia, an O'Byrne hybrid from Windcliff. I hope you had fun.
ReplyDeleteOoh, that's a cool Podophyllum. I got one from them a couple of years ago and it's come back nicely even though it sometimes gets neglected and dies back early in the season. (Plants in pots tend to like water.)
DeleteYou had to make it worth the trip. Didn't realize you and Alison were coming down. Sorry I missed the opportunity to say hello.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Nice haul! I am proud of you for staying true to your style.
ReplyDeleteSo familiar! Although I always leave plenty of room in my trunk, just in case...
ReplyDeleteI am like that with Roses and Camellias... I always need more of both!
ReplyDeleteIt's snowing here. What do mean:visit nurseries and buy plants? Not sure if that will ever happen here this year . . .
ReplyDeleteSurely by now you knew this would happen. A gardener can't go to a nursery and not be tempted by something. Going to multiple nurseries is just asking for more beautiful plants. I would be loving every minute of it. :) Well done.
ReplyDeleteHehe, you may be a plant addict, but at least you've got good taste. ;)
ReplyDeleteOh gosh, I'm jealous! Congrats! Now the fun of planning, planting, and arranging. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteYep, you are just like the rest of us! Plant geek/addict/collector to the core! Looks like a great haul! : )
ReplyDeleteI see Al's boxes in there. Always one of our stops in Woodburn.
ReplyDeleteWe were at Christianson's today. We weren't going to buy anything either. Yeah, right.
Haha! Famous last words for a plant lover indeed! Plants are just so hard to resist, especially when you spot some fabulous finds.
