Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette - Eye Candy

Wednesday Vignette is hosted by the fabulous Anna at Flutter and Hum.  Visit her blog to see her vignette and links to those of other participating bloggers.

Ribbon Candy?

A magic stone dropped in a red sea?

Being a magpie, shiny brightly colored objects catch my eye.  Do you prefer the calm of neutral tones, and matte finishes?

  1. I guess I would be firmly planted somewhere in the middle. There needs to be a little bit of both to get either to look its best. A little glam to jazz up the calm and neutral, and a little calm and neutral to offset the glam. I like how the gardeners at the Japanese garden do it - on one spring visit, I noted that they had cut off all but one Rhododendron blossom. Sure enough - it created all the glam needed! Those candy ribbons are stunning!

  2. Bright and shiny does catch my eye too, but I also like dirty and rusty, especially in the garden. But not too much of either. Of course, "too much" is a subjective thing.

  3. I really love the first one. I like anything that makes me happy but don't gravitate to anything shiny. It's just too.... shiny.

  4. Shiny, bright, sparkly - all good qualities in a mostly green garden.

  5. Love the baubles...on someone else's plot.

  6. It is never an "either" "or" kind of proposition. I like both. Depends on the garden, the season and yes, my mood. All this shiny glass is fabulous and I'd love to figure out how to use it in my garden.

  7. Gorgeous glass! The idea of filling my garden with colorful glass has some attraction - I bet it doesn't melt under the sun's glare.
