Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Blackwaters Metal - Cool Stuff & NWFGS pass up for grabs

Visiting the Tacoma Home and Garden Show was a delight both because of the company and because there were so many great things to see.  Blackwaters Metal work  appealed to me both for the quality and low prices. In checking out their website, I learned that they were at the Seattle Show last year and will be again this year.

Alison and I each bought a cute bat.  I'm hoping he brings more to the NWFGS because I can think of a certain older (much older, thank you for asking) sister who definitely needs one of these hanging around her garden.

Speaking of hanging around, wouldn't this chandelier look great hanging over your patio table?

There are a few places in my garden that could use a crow.  These can also be powder coated just about any color by whoever does your other powder coating.

A dragon flew home with me.  I'm not sure where it will end up but I'm wondering how hard it would be to have one attached to my car as a hood ornament.

Pileated woodpecker.

So many cool pieces, it's hard to choose a favorite!

I'm pretty sure that a green man and a Claddagh circle will be coming home with me from the Seattle Show!

And speaking of the Northwest Flower and Garden Show, I have a two day pass to give away if anyone could use it.  If you'd like it, say so in a comment and if there is more than one person who replies, I'll do a drawing.

Only eight more days until the show!

  1. Love the chandelier! The bats would be a huge hit in bat-loving Texas.

Can't wait to see the NWFGS posts since last year had such an excellent range of display gardens.

    1. We'll all be posting our heads off about the NWFGS as it's always a fun time!

  2. Well, you know I don't need a pass, so don't enter me in the drawing. But I love my bat, and I'm also looking forward to buying more from Blackwaters Metal at the show. I just noticed the circular dragon shape underneath the Claddagh circle in your picture. I might also get a pileated woodpecker. Hehe, you didn't mention me not recognizing the Seahawks symbol....

    1. Was going to say something like there's also a symbol of a local sports team that is very popular right now and will be playing in something called the super bowl but I would never mention that you didn't recognize it. Although I found that rather charming!

  3. Its good to admire other peoples art work that can go into a garden, these would last a long time I'm thinking.

    1. They would last a long time as they are also sprayed with a sealant which can be reapplied every three years or so.

  4. For the first time on this 'outlaw fardener' blog, I like it! Very nice artwork for the garden, a bat is a nice choice, but I like the craw too. I will be a new garden follower.

  5. Wow those prices are incredible! (can't help but wonder if they'll be the same in Seattle?). I would love to think you'd actually follow through with the dragon as hood ornament idea. That would be super fabulous!

    1. I was wondering the same thing about the prices going up for the big show. If so, Blackwaters is located in Port Orchard so I could just drive over sometime and get stuff there.

  6. Green Man is beautiful and would feel at home on an old Oak tree.
I checked the link to Blackwaters Metal. I was excited to see a 5% off coupon until I realized it expired in December 2013! These artistic type... they get lost in the art and forget the business side of things. I'll be catching up with them in a week though. I had my eyes on a crow (or two): they are over the neighborhood anyway, I'll add a silent member to the murder.

    1. I'm looking forward to buying more of their stuff! Have you already purchased your ticket for the show? I could email you the paper that you'd need to trade for the ticket at will call.

    2. Thank you, but I got my tickets two weeks ago at the West Seattle nursery. I enjoyed the discount of early purchase and it was an excuse to visit to the neighborhood garden center, not that I need an excuse :-)

  7. The chandelier is my fave, would make a great feature in a garden!

  8. I can just see you movin on down the road sporting a dragon on the hood. Please do it! I can't resist any plant with "dragon" in its name. Hmmm.
We've tried in vain to attract bats. Do you suppose they would flock around one of those fellows?

    1. I don't know what the secret of attracting bats is. I'm always worried that they'll roost in our attic and I'll frighten them when I'm up there and the whole thing will turn into a scene from The Birds. The dragon hood ornament is a fun idea but probably won't actually happen. I haven't even put my new license plates on and I've had them since May.

  9. I have the sun face and a kingfisher in black from this company! I love their stuff.
I will have to miss the NWF&GS this year. Not happy about that.

  10. I really like the Coast Salish art pieces!

  11. The Coast Salish pieces are my favorites, too! But all of their work looks great! I love the bat and the crows. My dad would like the dragons. I would probably have taken home a green man, too!

  12. Oh man, now I want a dragon for my car hood. And also that chandelier.

  13. Wow, great prices on the metal works! I love the crows - and the bat, the woodpecker, the dragon in the circle, the free-standing dragons...Too bad a flight up north isn't in the cards for me.

  14. Green man is great! Get it!
It's a generous offer, but I already have tickets. I'll be there on the 6th.

    1. Tatyana, Alison and I will also be there on the sixth. Maybe we could all meet somewhere.

  15. I bought one of your "Raven Steals the Sun" recently at the NW Arts Sale in Edmonds. I want to get another piece of your indoor metal work to go on the same wall as the Raven. Do you have a studio that's open to the public or a schedule of where and when for festivals and art shows?
