Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

The Christmas House

A few times a week I pass by a house that's decorated for just about every holiday.  The glow from the main road is brightest about this time of year so on a rare (lately) dry evening, I stopped by with my camera.  Why not share the joy?

There was also music playing so, if you'd like you can listen to this delightful Christmas carol by Jean Sibelius, sung here by Club for Five, a fabulous Finnish group.

We've had a lot of rain and wind lately.  A tornado, rare in these parts, touched down in a town to the west of us and did quite a bit of damage.  It was nice to be out on a dry and still night.

One must admire the spirit of the display and the many hours of work it takes to put together.

All of this balances my lack of Christmas decorations this year.

Looks like Santa's having a good time.

Hope you enjoyed taking a look.

  1. Yes, the wind lately has been pretty fierce. I saw video of that tornado, in Port Orchard, I think. Like you, I figure houses like this balance the equation.

  2. Thanks for sharing! I'm glad it's not across the street from me, but do love the exuberance.

  3. Definitely of the more is more school. We live in tornado country, so I can clearly imagine the wind.

  4. It's nice that there are people who enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for Christmas to this extent. As to the musical accompaniment, I figure if I follow your blog posts long enough, I may finally learn something beyond Finnish swear words.

  5. We are currently enduring another blast, as the latest wave of wind storms blows through. Tom just rescued the wreath that had blown down by the front door. Here comes the rain again. Hopefully the power will not go out.
I do love places like this where the residents go all out with their lighted decorations. It's spirit warming on these dark days of December. Thanks for sharing.

  6. Wow, they are serious about their decorating! We are rather sparse this year with our decorations, too--for various reasons. It's fun to drive around town and look at the lights.

  7. It is fun to see these lighted homes and gardens. Such a cheerful display. If I was a neighbor I might not like the music playing but it won't last long. I saw on tv about the tornado in your area. I am glad you weren't affected. Cheers.

  9. That is pretty amazing. I saw the news about your tornadoes, that was pretty amazing too. Beautiful voices, lovely carol to brighten up the subway.

  10. I too am a holiday decoration minimalist. I'm grateful to those who are the opposite. Merry Christmas to you!
