Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

In A Vase on Monday

Each Monday, Cathy at Rambling in the garden challenges us to cut some things from our garden to bring inside and enjoy for the week.  Thank you, Cathy for being our host and causing me to throw something together on Sunday afternoon.  Go here to see more arrangements.

Camellias are blooming, species tulips, snowdrops, early narcissus, stachyurus praecox, daphne odora,  an explosion of hellebores along with things that have been blooming for a while now. Although it's still winter, it feels and looks like spring.  Today was a bit blustery and cold but mostly, it feels like spring.  I noticed this bird or other critter-planted ornamental plum beginning to bloom and decided it would be great to try and do something ikebana-esque with them and also cut a nice bunch of berries from the Pernettya mucronata.

After several minutes of searching for a perfect vase for a minimalist arrangement and several more minutes trying to make branches stay in place and do something minimalist, I gave up and cut some camellias and stachyurus praecox to join these in a different vase.

Spring magic instead.

The Stachyurus didn't work well and the Pernettya berries looked a bit heavy for the bright, light spring flowers so they are in a separate vase by themselves.

Raise your hand if you're ready for spring!

 Happy new week!

  2. Ready or not, looks like an early spring is on the horizon. Love the glass eggs and your creative and fun arrangement for a Monday.

  3. It turned out super. Camellias are hard to 'arrange' and then the blossoms fall off because they have so few cells holding them on the stem. I just float mine in a bowl of water.

  4. Happy Monday, Peter! I love how you always find something to make this meme work. I give up on flower/branch arranging too easily.

  7. Oh and I got my laugh at the end of your post, Peter - love the hand! I always enjoy bhow you work through your thought process during the post, and I half expected several vases with a different bloom in each, but your single end result is lovely, perfectly balanced with those arching stems of the ornamental plum. Thanks for sharing

  8. Good fun! And there's something quite Japanese-y with your arrangement too.

  10. Ha! I like vase (and the hand, of course). And the ornamental Plum with the Camellia blooms is just perfect. You are an artist of great talent, in many ways!
