After my garden open on Saturday, I decided to go visit another garden on Sunday and do a little retail therapy. Air-conditioned stores are a great place to spend a 90 degree day.
This rather large ceramic doughnut made me laugh out loud and since it was on a clearance table, it had to be mine. It's designed to hang on a wall and has a slot so that it could be used as a coin bank. (for doughnut money perhaps?)
Then I thought of this cup and saucer planter that had been sitting, unused for years, in the greenhouse.
After a day of fun in the sun, I was as tired as this normal-sized teapot would be trying to fill such a large cup.
Here's the foliage-follow-up part. I have Heuchera 'Sweet Tea' in the ground that would have been perfect but instead H 'Forever Red' which was still in it's nursery pot had to stand in.
Stopping by the Everything shop to pick up some groceries on the way home, the potted lilies were marked down to less than one would pay for a bulb so a few had to come home with me. Maybel they'll actually get put in the ground. Anyway they joined the party.
After doing a bit of planting, a potted begonia took the place of the heuchera and lilies and I was ready to sit down for a while but where?
Here in a favorite chair? Hmmm. I guess size does matter.
That last photo has me all out of sorts. I seriously can't tell if anything in that scene is normal scale or not.
ReplyDeleteOh Peter, wonderful as always! I especially like the doughnut and the chair - just my sort of thing!!
ReplyDeleteThat normal size teapot really puts the other items in perspective. Love how the mood completely changes when the plants change, even though the china pieces are ao big and bright.
ReplyDeleteI think the begonia looks darling in that pot!
ReplyDeleteI love the Begonia in the teacup, but I think your scene is missing an Alice in Wonderland figurine and a tag that says "Eat me!" on the doughnut. That last shot with the little chair is very disorienting.
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you weren't too tired to have fun.
ReplyDeleteI had my reservations about that ceramic doughnut but I do like it paired with the spotted cup, which looks great with the Heuchera.
ReplyDeleteLove it!
ReplyDeleteI fancy a cup of tea and a doughnut now. A fun idea and great bargain lilies.
ReplyDeleteThe begonia is my favourite too..and love the way you brought different props to play. Brought a smile to my face.
ReplyDeleteYou have the makings of a Mad Hatter’s tea party there - what fun arrangements!
ReplyDeleteYou are making me hungry. I love the donut and over sized teacup together especially with the heuchra in the tea cup. Something your following will forward to seeing in the garden next year. I hope you were like Alice and shrunk to be able to rest in the small chair.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chuckle. You do have fun, Peter. I love it.
ReplyDeleteVery whimsical! I like the Begonia even better then the Heuchera. Definitely an Alice in Wonderland feel. It's been "Down the Rabbit Hole" kind of day anyway.
ReplyDeleteI believe you will never run out of vases.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun post - thanks for the smile today~ :)
ReplyDeleteYour Vases always make me smile - but this one is a complete triumph - such fun!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery fun! love the doughnut.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun sequence of arrangements and props. The begonia in the end looks perfectly at home in that cup. Have a great week.
