Flower world had caladiums on sale for a ridiculously low price so some jumped into my cart along with another rex begonia.
Foliage of some cyclamen is starting to emerge.
Fabulous ferns from Fancy Fronds (Fronderosa Frolic) for Foliage Follow-Up.
One that's been in my garden for a couple of years. Tough, evergreen, and can take deep shade, soft shield ferns are favorites of mine.
Cussonia transvaalensis from Annie's Annuals has grown so fast this summer that it's had to be re potted twice!
Loree says there's always an agave; I say there's always a begonia! This one, B. 'Autumn Embers' has a delicious combination of colors.
Better late than never and a cool selection as always!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteI want to see more of your ferns someday. Surely you have more than four?
ReplyDeleteI'll do a fern inventory post. In the meantime, here are some more from an earlier post:

I am a fan of ferns myself, you've a nice selection there Peter.
ReplyDeleteI love the foliage of the last Begonia. I must see if I can find that for next year.
Thank you, Angie.
DeleteThat begonia is quite nice, the photo doesn't do it justice!
As it is about to heat up again with 99F temperatures tomorrow, I find myself wanting to head up your way, in the hopes of camping out in the cool shade among all your shade plants. You wouldn't mind, would you?
ReplyDeleteCome on up and enjoy the cool shade, I'd be delighted!
DeleteYou have some wonderful foliage. I wonder sometimes about maybe buying some Caladiums as annuals. I might do it next year. They like some water, though, don't they?
ReplyDeleteAverage water, light shade. They're going into the greenhouse this winter too!
DeleteCaladiums are very flamboyant: they can easily steal the show with those incredible red streaks.
ReplyDeleteI'll look for soft shield fern; I'm not sure I have one of those yet, and plenty of deep shade that could use a little color.
Caladiums are a nice way to have color in the shade. They are happy with our warm summer but aren't fond of cool temps.
DeleteIt's a great fern!
I've decided I must have at least one Polystichum setiferum plumosomultilobum after seeing a beautiful specimen in another's garden last month. Is that what your showing above the Cussonia transvaalensis (which also looks fabulous)?
ReplyDeleteThat's the fern! I picked up a few varieties pf Polystichichum at the Frolic.
DeleteMy transvaalensis, after such a good showing last year, has decided to take a break, maybe from life itself. Yours is a beaut. If you want me to send that begonia you admired up your way to coddle in your greehouse, say the word. I doubt I'll take care of it over the winter.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your transvaalensis! Thanks for the begonia offer but I think you should love it through the winter!
DeleteI love the ferns!
ReplyDeleteHooray!
DeleteNext time, I think you should get video of the plants jumping on your cart - I bet it'd go viral on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteYou've certainly heard of Mexican jumping beans... Although hopefully the plants aren't inhabited by moth larvae.
DeleteFerns...Begonias...Agaves...I keep being influenced by bloggers' beauties. Result: a garden with multiple personality disorder.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to see what a particular blogger is hooked on, and now I know your favorite is begonia. Your Foliage post is chock-full of lovely foliage. Thanks for joining in, Peter.
