Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Winter's Last Hurrah!

Just before old man winter took his exit, he and that kid of his, Jack Frost, paid a visit and wanted to leave a reminder of their visit.  Some people simply leave a card.   A couple of weeks ago, my car was covered in beautiful artwork/unsightly graffiti (however you like to think of it.)

I'd never seen frost quite like this before. Notice all the little dots within each line.  So interesting.

The rest of the top of the car was covered in this more typical but stunning feathery crystalline structure.

A window.

Thanks, OMW and Jack for signing off so beautifully.  I'm looking forward to warmer nights and the wonder that is spring!

Happy new week all!

  1. Great frost pictures! I've never seen such an intricate pattern as that first one. Mother Nature and Old Man Winter can get up to some beautiful tricks.

  2. They look fab, like patterned glass! Funny you featured this as we had heavy frost last night and we had a similar effect on the car this morning :)

    1. The really interesting formation was on the sunroof of the car so I got to leave it. By the time I got to work, it had melted.

    1. It was too cool not to snap picutures, even though I only had my phone with me. It's wise for you never to believe me without proof!

  8. I've never seen anything like that, although we never get frost. (I'm not bragging, just saying...) As sign-offs go, that was pretty impressive.

    1. You can go ahead and brag. You're very fortunate to live in your gorgeous climate. That way, when you're sweltering in the summer heat and our thermometers don't go much above 75 or 80 I won't feel guilty about teasing you about it.

    1. Oh, a little running of the defroster in the car and a scrape or two and you could see through the windows in no time.

    1. It was odd because the night was rainy and the sky cleared in the wee hours of the morning allowing the temp to fall but no frost hit the ground so no plants were affected. Kind of a sweet greeting from a season that we often villify.
