On the last day of school before spring break, I got out of my car in the parking lot and the scent of freshly-mown lawn put a smile on my face even before I looked up and noticed that the maples were red with spring bloom. What more could go right? The most difficult part of the day, getting out of bed, into the shower, and driving to school, was over.
There is a large bed in front of the cars above that separates the parking lot from the street and runs the entire and considerable lenght of the parking lot. In that bed, the daylilies are already six inches tall and the many clumps of echinacea are popping up. The daffodills that we plant each fall are in full swing. Here, near a side door, a co-worker brought some grape hyacinths from her garden to add to the show. Throw in some pink, purple, apricot or red tulips and zowie!
More daffodils in the rose bed. The roses are leafing out and there are even a few tight tiny rose buds tucked down in there.
I love the lawns around the school because 1) someone else takes care of them and 2) they don't worry a lot about the moss that looks so wonderful in them and 3) they are full of English dasies.
These are so sweet and I've tried to get them to grow in my own tiny lawn but they usually don't stay for long. I do have sweet violets in my lawn though. I'll try again this year as the white and yellow blooms would look really sweet with the purple violets.
More Daffodils with the hybrid English daisies that one of the Girl Scout troops that meet in our building planted one year.
Who could have anything but a fun day when greeted by such happy faces?
It was a beautiful morning, the air was a little warmer than it had been on previous days and all seemed right with the world. At the end of the day, after the last bus pulled away and my planning was done for the following week, I ventured back to the parking lot and one of my coworkers had brought her puppy to school to meet us. Is that a cute face or what! Happy spring little guy!
I hope your April Fools' day is full of fun!
