Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Is Heaven Somewhere in the Sky?

For gardeners, heaven might just be at Sky Nursery in Shoreline.  The Tom and I jumped into Carmen (Elantra) the new plant mobile a few weeks ago for Carmen's first plant expedition, the first part of which you can read about here. Sky Nursery is another great nursery, huge and always packed with plants.  On this day, there was also live entertainment inside the hardy plant area in the form of an excellent choir which followed an instrumental  group.  We really do have amazing nurseries in this region!

Produce ornaments - yum.

There is a large space devoted to all things chicken including books, supplies, and even a few chickens.  Fake fowl?

Clever boat backdrop.

There were many theme trees/areas.

Ideas to keep our bird friends warm?

Very nice offerings in the unusual plant area!

This one jumped into my cart because I need another fern like I need a hole in my head.

Totemic design tables are very pacific northwest!

Heucherella 'Gold Zebra'  is colorful year round.

Lots of great plants in the native plant area including this Artemisia ludoviciana 'Valerie Finnis.'

Clever way to display plants suitable for rock gardens. Rock on!

Silver and magenta-delicious!

Who you callin' a ho?

Unfortunately it looks as if the nursery has run out of L's.  One must shop early in the season for them as you see this notice everywhere as soon as thanksgiving is over.

Look at those beautiful begonia 'Autumn Ember.' I love this both for the color of it's foliage and because it's one of a few begonias that thrives for me.  African violets are tempting but so far, I've resisted taking any home.  Do you grow them?

Platycerium bifurcatum with an especially nice shape.

 Love this sweet little building!

All ready for winter!

Really wired!  Those spheres are far out!

In September, when Alison and I visited Sky, I admired this Ligularia tussilaginea 'Cristata' but since a smaller one already lived in my garden, it stayed at the nursery.  However, it was now residing in the deep discount area.  Who could say no to that foliage at such a discount?  Carmen's first plants ready to come home.  Now where am I going to put that ligularia?
Happy fifth day of Christmas, sixth day of Hanukkah, fourth day of Kwanzaa.  Just about time to hit all the nurseries for the after holiday sales!

  2. Carmen is taking you to plenty of fun places. After Christmas sales are the best. Those little cactus pots are so cool.

    1. Funny how Carmen knows all the great plant places just like the previous plant mobile.

  3. Every time you or Loree post about nurseries I go bonkers. The wealth of plants, ideas and objects continues to amaze me and make me think I need to get out more around here. Love your fern. I used to grow African violets years ago when I had an apartment window that they loved. I've also had a little luck with Begonias and plan on trying them again. They make such great pot plants in the summer as well.

What jumped at me next to the Platycerium bifurcatum was the fantastic water feature! very unique in color and design.
The dinosaur in Carmen's trunk reminds me: what about that Dinosaur Holiday Display?

    1. How cool that you'll be going to Sky, it's such a cool place! The dinosaur holiday display hasn't happened yet, got busy with getting married. However, I think it might still get put together one of these days.

  6. That fern is fabulous. I've been debating buying that Begonia from Logee's, but theirs is usually only available as a tiny start in a 2 inch pot. What are the chances those will still be there if I jump in the car this week and drive up to Sky? Were they in the heated houseplant area?

  7. Even near certain death in my garden wouldn't have gotten me to pass up that fern. This is one time I'm glad I don't live in the PNW - I'd be broke in no time.

    1. We say the same thing about living in your climate where so many cool things are hardy in the ground. Your relatives on Vashon Island really want to see you!

We visited Sky on our Christmas shop field trip. They do have wonderful displays.

One of the many things I love about Sky is the spacious layout. There can be tons of people there and it never seems crowded.
