Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

In A Vase On Monday

In A Vase On Monday is hosted by Cathy at Rambling in the Garden.  To see what she's put in a vase on this day and find links to other participants, click here.   It's been a busy week and the wind and rain made me want to stay indoors so this week I'm cheating by posting someone else's arrangement.

A couple of weeks ago, I spotted this wonderful autumn/winter display at Flower World.  Since all of the elements in the bouquet are also available in my garden, I'll show you what I might have arranged had I not been such a lazy lump.

Cedar, callicarpa berries, nandina foliage, spent sedum blooms, faded hydrangea, and cornus branches come together to create a lovely late autumn arrangement.

Please forgive my sloth.

  1. Those sedum flower heads do the trick every time. They provide the focal point, the visual weight and the color that ties it all together. I know you could have done the same!

  2. My Sedum flower heads have lost all their color. There's little/nothing in my garden after last week's frost/freeze that I could use for a colorful arrangement. That makes me not worry about being slothful.

  3. Humorous aspect aside I must say you're one of the least lazy people I know. How many jobs do you have? In addition to posting 5 days a week here? Lazy, HA! Nice arrangement btw...

  4. Lazy lump? I think not Peter, just very busy I guess!;)It looks such a bright arrangement that it's almost hard to believe this is December, Callicarpa berries definitely gems in their own right, aren't they?

  5. To think of saving this picture for "a rainy day", or snow, is very crafty of you. Your self deprecating humor is funny mostly because by now everyone knows the truth about you, and hard you work.

  6. The holidays alone are enough to make one short-circuit but, add miserable weather, and there's good reason to hide out inside with a mug of hot chocolate. It was clever of you to capture a photo like this and hold it in reserve for IaVoM.

  7. Since the number of vase Mondays that I've managed to post about is now equal to the number that you've "skipped" (by posting somebody else's creation), I'd have to agree with Loree and say "lazy" is not the right adjective. Let's say "human" instead. ;)

  8. It's a good vase...special dispensation for 'Busy Peter' notwithstanding.

  9. Nice arrangement even if it wasn't yours. :) I expect yours would be even better.

  10. No way you're lazy. But thanks for sharing this example--I love it. Even though we all have access to different elements, the basic form is one that we could "borrow" in our designs. I like the circular form of this one, in particular. I think I need to start a notebook with these great ideas ... or keep my Pinterest boards up-to-date. Thanks for sharing!

  11. Lovely. It reminds me of one I made that lasted about three weeks, until I replaced it with Christmas decorations.

  12. Think we're all busy. But maybe you can do something similar next time.

  13. Thank you, that has given us all ideas for winter arrangements. I have alk of these plants in my garden and could do something like this. It is lovely.
