Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

New Odd Plants for Foliage Follow-Up

On the day after Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day, Pam at Digging hosts Foliage Follow-Up to celebrate the important role of foliage in our gardens.  Recently, Alison and I attended the Cascade Cactus and Succulent Society Odd Plant Show and Sale (post to come.)  I went with the idea that I didn't want to buy anything as I already have too many plants.  Here's what I got.  So I'm an addict, is this a surprise to you?

Aeonium glandulosum

Aeonium 'Lemon Lime'

Mammillaria schiedeana  var. plumosa forma mostruosa in a pot made by Steve Casebolt whose garden I got to visit earlier this summer. (Post forthcoming.)

Cyphostemma juttae

Alluaudia procera

The next four plants came in these pots by Peter Liekkio of Pete's Pots and Plants. Click on the link and you'll find a video tour of Peter's greenhouse.  (Sigh!)

Euphorbia buplar x suzanne

"A nice toothy form of Aloe humilis grown from seed 1995."  Wow!

  1. Wow - there is a passion turned into a reality! One of these days, I'm going to pay a visit to YOUR greenhouse, Peter, so I can examine all these beauties up close. Very fun post! I think my favorite is that Alluaudia procera. I think...

  2. I don't think I actually saw all the plants you bought at the Odd Plant Sale, till now. You found so many fascinating specimens.

  3. But of course you bought some plants! I especially like the Aeonium 'Lemon Lime'.

  4. Haha! "So here's what I bought." Yep, you might be an addict. It's ok. I'm working on getting rid of plants...so I can get more! Lots of great treasures here but, like Loree, I'm partial to the Aeonium 'Lemon Lime'.

  5. Love that "Lemon-Lime". Can you be a gardener and not be an addict to some degree? I don't think so . . .

  6. I'm in love with that Aeonium 'Lemon Lime', which I've never seen before. For some reason, here where Aeoniums can cavort outside year-round, we don't have nearly the bounty of choices you have up in the PNW - now that's also odd!

  7. I've never seen most of these plants before, so unusual!

  8. So many unusual plants, no wonder you couldn't resist. I'm intrigued by Cyphostemma juttae although I couldn't possibly pick a favorite. Once you join the Society, you'll have to host more tours: your collection is impressive and should be shared.

  9. All of them gorgeous. What is it about these succulents that makes them so addictive? I never used to like them and now I am hooked too and my collection grows and grows. The trouble is I haven't got a huge heated greenhouse like yours to keep them in over winter.
