Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette

Last night, sitting on the back porch, I noticed this beauty who, back-light, seemed to be glowing gold from within, the simple magic of a porch light at night.

A flash revealed the beautiful pattern on her abdomen.  Charlotte (All spiders who spin webs on my porch are named Charlotte) is accustomed to a lot of attention and seemed to enjoy posing.   Charlotte, honey, if you're having your picture taken, either wear long pants or shave your legs.
Wednesday Vignette is hosted by my pal Anna at Flutter and Hum.  Click here to see her vignette and links to those of other bloggers.

  1. Spiders are so interesting, contrary to the opinion of those folks who scream and run away. I did have to vacuum away some giant webs on my windows on the porch room after reading 'symptoms' of Hoarders that spider webs in the house are a Level III concern.

  2. Because I know they do good work, I leave spiders out in the garden, and sometimes on the porch, alone. But inside the house I can't tolerate them. This is a very pretty one, I can see why she got your attention. Good photos!

  3. Love the contrast between the flash photo and that with the illumination of the porch light. I love spiders too - I find them fascinating - with or without their hairy legs! :)

  4. Big spider season is here! Good thing you had the porch light on when walking out there, or you might have gotten a much closer view of Charlotte than you wanted (I've done that before -- can you say "adrenaline rush"?)

  5. Nothing says autumn like walking into spider webs in the garden.
I'd take the long way around to avoid them; they own my garden this time of year.

  6. Good she's happy on the porch. The spiders around here all seem hell-bent on moving into our house.

  7. Spiders are our friends. Spiders are our friends. Just stay out of my hair!

  8. Spiders look nicer when, as in your photo, they're not wrapping their next meal - or consuming it.

  9. What a gorgeous pattern. And, I'm happy to see it in a photograph, but not so much in real life.

  10. Nice photos, Peter. I like spiders and find them fascinating, even though they do occasionally cause problems.
