Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Wednesday Vignette

I'm joining blogging pal Anna's Wednesday Vignette meme. Check out more at Flutter and Hum here.

Euphorbia wulfenii puts on a great show for quite some time.  Even the seed pods are  pretty and a bit odd.  Are those little dark looking things eyes?

  1. Euphorbia wulfenii has such a presence. (Finally bought one). Many Euphorbias share their happy color in early spring all over the PNW. You can identify a plant as part of this large and diverse group by it's distinct bloom alone. The tiny bug-like centers with a skirt: sweet.

    1. Euphorbia wulfenii does have a tendency to seed around quite a bit if it's happy. Easy enough to get rid of though so not an issue. There are a lot of great euphorbias!

  2. I love how exotic and alien looking Euphorbias are when in bloom!

    1. You're right, these common plants do look exotic and alien when in bloom.

  3. I love those chartreuse bracts. The little dark things do look like eyes. I didn't know euphorbias were four-eyes.

  8. It's one of my favorites! So wide spread in Europe and reminded me about my own garden during our last trip.

  10. Definitely worth a vignette! Euphorbias are fascinating plants. Blooms, brachts, foliage, and all.

  11. All the little seed capsules do look a lot like bugs. I wonder if they explode like the gopher purge seed capsules? Wulfenii doesn't spread like amygdaloides purpurea and dulcis Chameleon have in my garden, they are all over the place. Fascinating.
