Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Snow Sighting!

This weekend, I spotted these at Molbak's Nursery.

For those of you in parts of the country currently covered in snow, It's possible that snow isn't particularly your favorite thing at the moment.  Sorry.

Where I live, snow is a novelty.  There have even been  winters without snow but we usually get a couple of inches on the ground at least once or twice during the winter and every ten years or so, we get a big storm that dumps five or six inches of the white stuff.

Rather clever, not difficult to make but probably fairly costly unless those aren't real tools.

If winter isn't your thing, you can pretend that they're giant sunbursts.
More of  Molbak's to come but that's all for now from your flaky friend.

  1. What a great idea to pretend they're sunbursts. I would paint them orange! I'll be happy if we have a snowless winter this year.

    1. I do like to look at the snow so wouldn't mind a day or two but that would suffice.

  2. I think Alison is on to something; stark white is not my first choice either. Orange is good.

What really caught my eye was the pots: orange, bronze, shades of green -- marvelous.

    1. Orange would be nice. This nursery always has a lot of great pots!

  3. I think if I had these in my garden the temptation to "borrow" tools from it would be too great. Why walk all the way back to the garage when there are six perfectly good little spades right here? :)

  4. Very creative! It would look good too with a clock mechanism on it.

    1. Yes indeed. Will we be seeing a tool clock in your new shed?

  5. I keep losing my tools in the yard waste bin so I couldn't possibly accumulate so many for a display. A fun idea though, just not as snow flakes. I'm with Alison on this: don't bring up the dreaded "S" word, unless you mean Sunshine :-)

    1. It's nice to have a day or two of snow when everyone slows down and walks around the neighborhood enjoying how everything looks covered in white. The nights are so bright and cheerful...

  6. Those are cool. I like how the lopper blades fit together and make a swirly shape on the first one.

Les from A Tidewater Gardener has a photo from a garden visit where they made a big cluster of all kinds of old garden tools, sprayed the whole thing white, and then put their house numbers in the center of the thing.

    1. That swirly shape in the first one is fun!

I'll have to hop over to Les's blog and check out the garden tool house number thing!

  8. I have enough of the genuine article right now, and winter is just getting started. It certainly doesn't bode well for the rest of the season. Still, I can appreciate the creativity that went into putting these together, and that first one is cool.

  9. Where I live, snow would be a story on the national news. I like the art pieces, although snowflakes here are such a foreign concept that I'm not sure buyers would make the connection.

  10. Theses ornaments are very nice. I love snow, I wish we had some at christmas, but as I am finding out, too much can be very dangerous.

  11. I like those very much as we hardly ever get any snow!

  12. The snowflakes are fun, but what I'm loving are the pots in those photos.
