Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

  1. Lichen grows only in a healthy gardens. We mostly notice it in Winter, when the garden offers less distractions. Very lovely.

  2. I failed a section of a biology exam in college on lichens and yet I can't stay mad at them. They're like nature's lace.

  4. They say lichens in the garden means you have clean air. Now I don't know how true that is...

  6. Lately I'm noticing tons of these lichens on the sidewalks, having fallen from the trees. I feel so disrespectful just passing them by, like I'm leaving a treasure in the sidewalk. I suppose I should take a bag out on our walks and pick them up.

  7. When I see this lichen on the branches of my apple tree I try to tear it off.
    Have a nice weekend, Peter!

  8. Honestly, I don't think I could ever be accepted into that League--too much of a yapper. :) I love your photos. I mean seriously love your photos. Moss, lichen and aged wood are three of my favorite things. Thankfully, unlike so many of our beloved plants, they don't go away in winter. Have a great week Peter.
