Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

A Little Sunshine

Jason from Gardeninacity recently nominated The Outlaw Gardener for a Sunshine Award.  I am certainly humbled at this kind gesture.  Awards like this are a fun & lighthearted way to express appreciation and increase awareness.  To claim this award, one must answer seven questions, nominate some other blogs to receive the award, and let the nominees know that they've been named.

O.K. Am I the only one who is humming the tune to "Spread a Little Sunshine"  from the musical "Pippin?"

Back in my younger days, when things were going wrong
I might sulk, I might pout
Now I've learned if I just pitch in and do what's right
Things will always work out
And if we all could spread a little sunshine
All could light a little fire
We all would be a little closer
To our heart's desire

Lord know's we've seen enough troubles already, we've
Had our fill of grey skies
So put down the vinegar, take up the honey jar
You'll catch many more flies
And if we all could spread a little sunshine
All could think before we strike
We all would be a little closer
To the world we'd like

Just me?   Well then,  on to the question portion of the pageant (I've been banned from the swimsuit and evening gown segments!)  I wonder if all of these questions could be answered with a song title or lyric?  Let's see...

Favorite Number: "One singular sensation..."  or "25 or 6 to 4"  whatever you choose, "Ricky, don't loose that number!"

Favorite Non-Alcoholic Drink:  "Coffee Cantata" by J.S. Bach

Favorite Animal: "How Much is that Doggie in the Window?"

Facebook or Twitter:  "The Sound of Silence."  (neither, really)

My Passion: "An die Musik,"ich bin dein gärtner"

Favorite Day of the Week:  "Never on a Sunday" "Everybody's working for the weekend."

Favorite Flower: "O My Luve's Like a Red, Red Rose", "Die Rose die Lilie die Taube die Sonne"

Now, to nominate others for this award...   I read a lot of great garden blogs!   Please see the list over there on the right.  No, not that one, down a little; the one called "Some blogs I read." I love all of those blogs over there!  Some bloggers enjoy this sort of  "chain letter" award; others don't so I've nominated blogs that I enjoy whose authors may  enjoy this little game and omitted some who I know are not so keen on it.   If you decline, no one will be offended.

  1. Let's see which one will be stuck in my head all day? Loverboy's "Everybody's working for the weekend" or Steely Dan's "Rikki don't..."...either way congrats on the sunshine. Just keep it coming! (the sunshine that is)

    1. Thanks. Loving the sunshine but am looking forward to not having to water. It's amazing how dry it is outside!

  2. Thanks for the link love. This one has easy questions, so maybe I'll go for it. I've been nominated occasionally for blog awards, but they always seemed a little too complicated, and I didn't want to burden others. I didn't realize you loved roses so much. That's probably the hardest question for me.

    1. My pleasure! Like lots of gardeners, I don't really have a favorite flower. In lilac time, I love them, daffodil time, daffodils, etc. They're all beautiful. Those two song titles poped into my head first so that's what got written down.

    1. That's strange. I'm pretty sure hers is a public blog. I'll ask her if maybe her settings are not right.

    2. Thanks, now I can read her blog again. There were technical problems.
