Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

Ginger and Tony's Garden

A few weeks ago, I decided to take a more circuitious route home than I usually do.  Lucky for me I came across this delightful garden and had my camera with me.

I see that some of these plants are growing a little over the sidewalk.  Yea!  Another outlaw in my neighborhood!
I finally got up the nerve to knock on the door.  Ginger and Tony, the couple who made and tend this garden were every bit as welcoming as their gorgeous garden.

Asters and Japanese anemonies, a subtle and soft combination.

What a wonderful gift to passersby on the street or sidewalk!

So much beautiful color!  I'll definitely walk this way again!  Thanks Ginger and Tony for  making your part of Tacoma so lovely!

  1. Very charming...although, if that amount of sidewalk coverage makes you an outlaw...I can only imagine what mine makes me...America's Most Wanted?!?

    1. Have you missed the wanted posters with your name on them? Your sidewalk coverage is an inspiration to us all!

  2. I love gardens like this that give walkers something beautiful to look at. Draping over the sidewalk is definitely a plus. I've been wondering where to plant the Japanese anemone that I bought recently, and what to plant it with. That looks like a sweet combo.

    1. The white and pale purple are a nice combination and the yellow centers of both sort of tie them together.

  3. What a beautiful garden! You rarely see hell strip plantings in my CT town. People just don't seem do that here but from what I've observed, people just don't seem to be as much into gardening in general. We need more outlaws!

    1. Maybe folks garden more in their back yards in your area? Some neighborhoods seem to prefer the lawned or tree - lined look on the street side of things. We live in the wild west where outlaws break the LAWn and upset refined residents of gentrified areas with our tastless antics:)

  4. Really lovely. So many wonderful combinations, white cosmos with purple coneflowers ... I wish I had the nerve to knock on the doors when I see gardens I love. Actually, I wish people who like my garden would knock on my door. You probably made their day.

    1. We live in an anything can happen neighborhood and they may have thought that I was running some sort of scam or casing the place. In any case, they were nice folks. If I'm ever in Chicago, I'll be sure to knock on your door unless I find you outside rolling on the ground in a lily fragrance induced euphoria in which case, I'll try and step around and snap a few pictures.

    1. You're right! To help even out the nice to ornery ratio, I'm trying to become a surly curmudgeon who shakes his fist suspiciously at passersby.
