Although this could very well be a picture of me finding a new treasure at a favorite nursery, it's actually an illustration by David Catrow for a children's book called Plantzilla.

The Tacoma Home and Garden Show Part Two

This post is mostly about the Vintage Market but in looking at my pictures, I noticed a couple of things I forgot to add to yesterday's post.

Marcus Harper  is always coming up with something new  and this season he's introduced these cool fused glass pieces made from glass powder.

You may be familiar with his work from other garden festivals in the area.

There were various talks given in the stage area but this guy drew a large audience. I've never watched the tv show so had no idea who he was.

Folks were interested  in Brett's  talk.  I was  impressed with the set.  How fun is that?

Meanwhile, at the vintage market...

Isn't art deco stuff fabulous?  Loved this chandelier!

Sorry,  I forgot who was responsible for most of the displays but for a complete list of vendors you can look here.

Christy at The Urban Gardener always does a great display.  She's also a garden designer and  I appreciate the way she blends vintage items with plants.

I meant to go back and pick up a small flower frog as all of mine are too large for small winter arrangements.

Oh my, that cage would be fabulous in the garden and it was reasonably priced too.  I must have been tired after working all week because it seemed like too much of a hassle to schlep it to my car.

Like visiting my past.  I'm also vintage now. Yikes, how did that happen?

This almost came home for the greenhouse but there seems to be more than enough out there already.

Love the idea of creating lamps from vintage glass pieces.

The woman who makes them was kind enough to share with me what adhesive she uses.  Turns out, there's already some in the adhesive drawer  of my studio.

Creative use of a claw foot bathtub.

Looks like you could take this rickshaw to any global destination.
Did you see anything that you need?

Have a good weekend all.  Only three weeks until the Northwest Flower and Garden Festival and 29 days until spring!

  1. Not to worry Peter, like fine wine, vintage just improves with age.

  2. Oh, that vintage. That's what garden shows need in our climate.

  3. I read a lot of "didn't buy" comments, what did you buy?

    1. Strangely, I didn't buy anything. Just not in the mood for some reason.

  4. Honestly, I found it difficult to concentrate after the seeing Brett Tutor's picture.
Anyway... vintage markets always draw me in, so it was a fine distraction. I never see anything I need, but want everything I see!
I hope that soon you'll show us a vintage lamp you made yourself.

    1. Brett seemed like a nice enough person but, having never seen the show, I didn't know who he was and just happened by the stage by chance. Isn't it funny that we send a lot of "useless junk" away only to decide it's really cool when we see it displayed in vintage markets?

  5. Hah, like chavliness, I never see anything I need, but want everything. Like that bird cage, if she brings that to the flower show, I might have to fight you for it. I also love art deco, so that chandelier is right up my alley.

    1. I won't fight over the cage, you can have it. I've got too much stuff in my garden already.

  6. Looks like a lot of decoration work! So many different things in one picture! I always admire people who have that talent to create those rooms.

    1. I admire them too. When I try to do this, everything just ends up looking crowded and junky but these folks really have a knack for making it look interesting.

    1. I usually take a picture of the business card but forgot to do so. They're marvelous and were only 25 - 30 bucks. Christy at The Urban Gardner would probably know.

  10. My favorite was the bicycle rickshaw. What I'd do with is a whole different question. Maybe, instead of using his stationary bike (formerly MY stationary bike) to exercise, I could get my husband to take me on rides throughout the neighborhood.

    1. The rickshaw was fab but, like you, I struggled with what to do with it. Your idea is a good one. Now, how to convince your husband...

  11. Some pretty cool stuff, I might even have cracked and brought something home. Definitely get the birdcage next time, you can't go wrong with that!
I'd love to meet the person who brings that rickshaw home.

    1. The birdcage was cool. I wonder if anyone brought that rickshaw home. It's way cool but where would you put it?

  12. Oh how fun - it looks like the place to find all sorts of treasures! I just love what I think are old metal bicycle seats in the Antique Liquidator display. And those glass art pieces in the first photo are awesome.

  13. Yes, I did Peter. I liked the chair made of the fence planks. Lovely. I also like your first photo -these glass feathers were made from glass powder, were not they?

  14. I don't need a settee made from a bathtub, but what a hoot! The deco chandy, yes!

  15. Oh, a "Breakfast at Tiffany's" clawfoot tub settee! Tried to copy & paste movie scene with Audrey Hepburn lounging on it & George Peppard behind from Pinterest but it wouldn't 'take.' There are DIY instructions for people more ambitious than I!
